beretta was good too,
but Colt .45 1911 gov. was the best for secondary weapon, cuz of its stopping power, and for secondary its usually in close combat situation, so its range is good enough

Glock 23. Great durable pistol that is an outastanding performer in all conditions. Very tactical and upgradedable. Im in the military and perfer it over the POS berettas we have.

i like the M1911 for a couple of reasons, it is upgradeable to be a accurate and consistent weapon and parts and ammo are just about everywhere in the world

I have to say the Glocks are the best.I work in Iraq as a contractor and we use Glocks.
They are simple but highly durable,effective,and reliable.People say they have safety issues,but that is only if you are not conpetent and don't pay attention.
I have heard good things about the new Springfield XD's and will be purchasing one soon.
This is not part of your question but .45 is the best way to go in respects to caliber.

Revolver: S&W 38 is solid and relliable.
Semi-Auto: the Colt 45 is still the standard of excellence.

My favorite handgun is the Glock 23. It's a .40, holds about 13-14 rounds, and my grouping is tight. The .45 has a little too much punch for my needs. The 9mm models are really nice too. The 23 is great for concealment.

Pistol...I have found the H&K 9mm short frame to be reliable, quick and easy to use. And just plain fun when .
practicing.

Revoler...Since 1986 I have trusted the Ruger GP 100 (,357) for reliabilty and impact / stopping power using the magnum cartridges. It was a toss up between the GP 100 and the classic Colt .357 Python

When I needed to have a conceled weapon permit to carry I qualified using the GP 100 fire arm using the .357 rounds. But I carried the H&K 9mm. Lighter weight, slim profile and double the firepower.

And of course back in 1976 I had to qualify with the Colt .45 Caliber Model 19ll pistol when I served inthe Army.

I think Glock makes the best semi-autos.

I prefer a S&W K frame .357 myself.. (Highway patrol model in fact)stop just about anyone on a dime.. and no auto faliure rates besides a revolver is always more accurate than an auto off the shelf anyway..

If we are talking auto.. I'd prob have to go with a .45 ACP 1911A.. not as accurate outta the box but pretty reliable.. and in a gunfight thats what counts LOL

Glocks have safety issues. Ruger P93 40 cal. if you can find one. has the stoping power of a desert eagle. and is safe to handle, less likely to fire if you drop it on the ground.

kel-tec sells a compact 40 cal , but again safety issues.

beware of 1911 knock offs.

Anyone ever fire a 50 cal?

Everyone likes to talk big about it, but Id settle for shotplacement vs as powerful a round as you can get - with much more recoil to control -- any day.

I have active duty NCO friend who thought it would be cool to get a 50 cal, and I begged him to let me go to the range when he shot it off for the first time.
He said yeah, but went without me.

Turned out the knucklehead smacked himself in the face because of the kick. knicked his forehead.
And I knew it would happen.

Tell me hes not going to have problems knowing what a strong kick it has, the next time he tries firing it.

The P99 Walther, or even the 92FS beretta is a good RELIABLE controllable gun. Add some hydroshocks, youll get yourself some nice take down power.

But again, its all shot placement.
All these idiots talking 357 50 cals probably never shot a gun or wouldnt know a 1 inch shot group from 25 meters from a hole in the ground

And yes, I said 25 meters!
