If they don't tell you, keep their private lives away from the barracks, and do not start plastering rainbow flags on their AFVs, then you won't know the difference, will you? So the question becomes academic if the chap in question is the right sort, and behaves more than discreetly. On the other hand, a mincing poofter who puts his hand on your knee when you sit next to him at lunch, will probably get his brain panned in before you can say, "Two, three!"

Obviously, when the younger elements get a bit sloshed, they are very likely to start telling war stories - girls, tarts, pick-ups in the disco, and so on. Not the moment to start talking about the hunky man you met in the gay bar, even if the others are all going on about screwing their girlfriends stupid.

Personally, I'd rather not have open, out-of-the-closet gays in my mob. There may be gay men out there who can get into the infantry or the Paras and do the job, but most of the gays I've met - and I've actually met quite a few, and haven't been nasty to them, honestly! - are not quite the right type, ducky. Ooh, look! Doesn't that dark pink beret just look super! I wonder if it's Gucci!

theres plenty of them already serving in Iraq and Afganistan

the military pretty much ignores them at this point

they cant afford to discharge anyone willing to serve now

OK i am a former paratrooper,

this is a legal and moral issue.

legally you know they have the don't ask, bla bla.
morally i really think it's wrong. but that is how I feel

Now, in the real world, are there gays? yep, if there was a special beam that would show all the gays, if you go to any and every branch, you will find gay people.

I don't agree with anybody being gay, and last time I checked in the bible, that gay city got burned up (Sodom and Gomorrah)

there have been gay members of the armed forces for years and nothings changed,gay soldiers,male or female are just as good as those who are straight and why not ,being gay in the military is no big thing and the army in general accepted this fact long ago and its not as if gays wear a sign and nor do they expect to be treated any differently,so yes,I'm OK with gay people in the service,

i say as long as they do their job and follow the UCMJ (dont ask dont tell) then its whatever. they are people just like everybody else and they should be able to serve their country if they want as long as they dont distract other soldiers or disrespect the flag or uniform

Gay people are as excellent at their job as hetero's.

I think that there is a dark corner fear of Gay Service Personnel ganging up and raping other Personnel.

This fear is completely unfounded, the bond between Service Personnel is as strong in Gays as in Hetero's.

I see no problem with Gay Service Personnel, except that there are Stone-Age homo-phobics in all walks of life.

As long as there is no secrecy, there is no power base for bullying.

Being gay should not matter whatsoever!

Nope, served my country and don't believe that culture should be in its military. I believe gayness is wrong according to God's word. I am glad I served in a time when they weren't openly allowed in. Can they do the job? Yea anyone could serve in the military if they set their mind to it but don't feel that their culture is a good mix for the military! I know that a lot of people out there have the idea that as long as it doesn't affect me then. . . Their culture is affecting this country. I served, and I really would have been offended if some guy tried to hit on me while I am trying to serve my country! You can't tell me that gays in the military haven't somehow affected straitght peoples lives in the military. I would like to see a study on how gays have affected the military. Thanks Bill C.
