Ghillie suit question?

i am making two ghillie suits one tan and one mossy but i don't know how much jute to order. by the way im making ghillie suits for covering my back and sides not the front.Also any good sites for cheap jute?

when i made my first ghillie i used sandbags. i just got done making a new. i went to walmart and just bought the burlap. i think that i paid 2or 3 dollars for it. you want to get about 10 to 12 yards to make enough for a suit, hat, and drag bag. if you have any questions email me and i can send you a good link that will tell you everything to need to know about it.

you might want to consider getting synthetic thread, it'll make you ghillie suit much lighter.

I have found the best way to do this is to go to a local fabric store and just buy burlap on the role. that way you can cut it all yourself and have it be all different lengths. they usually sell the dye that you need to dye it to match your environment. This is the most time consuming way to do it, but it is cheaper (about $5.00 a yrd) and you can get exactly what you want. And since you are not building a standing stalk suit (with jute on the front) you can pick up some canvas to re-enforce the front of your suit, and dye it with the same dye that you use on the burlap.

Like i said, this is the most time consuming method because you have to cut and separate the burlap into usable jute, but its the cheapest route. Still easier than ripping apart sand bags for jute.
