Good enough reason to join?

Im 19 years old, im not in college just have been working since i graduated. Ive always kinda wanted to join the army, but have no real need to( i have money to go to college, and i can pay my bills on my own) but ive always had a strong urge that i should give back and serve. I was thinking just do 3 years active as an infantrymen or something. I know what really goes on behind the cool army commercials because all my forefathers have served and i have some friends in the military. So i know its not just a walk in the park, and i think i could handle a long deployment. So my question is this: Do you think just having the urge to serve my country and no other reason is a strong enough reason to enlist?

Thanks for any advice!

Of course it is!
But.. make sure it really is what you want before you sign anything. The military life is not for everyone.

You should definitely join the military. I would tell you to join the marines but showing that you served in any branch of the military looks great on job applications. Also most branches will pay for your college even though you have enough I'm sure it'll be better to have a little more spare cash to have fun with

go Marines. Army takes anyone, Marines make you a man.

Definitly, I feel the exact same way.

I am about to get a job with the police department which will give me good money and great benifits, and if I get the job then I plan on joining the reserves just for the sole purpose of serving.

I feel, with people like you and me, if we don't enlist then we will always regret not serving. I want to look back on my life 5, 10, 30 years from now and be proud and I know I need the military for this.

I would rather join the Marines. If I were you, I would wait until I graduate from college. And your reason to serve is good enough. There are few brave people like you who wants to defend their country. Only a few would do that.

in my opinion i dont think it is enough reason. to join and enjoy what your doing and keep your level of performance you need a selfish reason to join, i could have gone to college with a scholarship, but i chose to join the army so i would have actual experience in the job i want when i get out (where else can you get it when everyone wants someone experienced). thats what keeps me going, serving my country is just a bonus to me.
