Battle of Britain is more interesting.

Germany had it about won. They were ready to invade. The Germans had the RAF on the ropes and once the RAF was gone, the British would not be able to provide air support when the Germans launched their invasion. But then a German bomber aiming at the docks in London missed and hit the center of London. It was an accident. But then Air Marshall Harris (Bomber Harris) ordered a 1000 plane raid on Berlin, a deliberate violation of the Geneva Conventions as it was clearly an attack on civilians. Under the Conventions, if one side violates the Conventions, the other side can do the same. So Hitler ordered a raid on London and the Blitz was on. That was actually good for Britain as the attacks were no longer on the RAF airfields and the RAF was able to regroup and fight off the Germans. It turned into such a losing situation for the Germans that Hitler called off the Invasion and England won the Battle of Britain.

Had Hitler ignored the raid on Berlin and kept after the RAF, England would have fallen.

After the war Air Marshall Harris did NOT get a big fat medal that you would have expected, he just quietly retired without a lot of recognition.

And by the way,. Harris called his tactic "terror bombing" and that is probably one reason England does not say much about terrorist attacks done today. The terrorists are doing nothing different than what England did in WWII, albeit in smaller size.

Battle of Berlin,

The Russians were a lot closer so they got there first. The Americans were trying to get Bravaria as they thought that is where Hitler and the Nazi leaders would make their last stand. England was to the North cutting off escape routes to the sea. The French were doing as the French have always done in the 20th century, let others fight for them.

Can I point out to the first person to answer, the ENgland did NOT win the battle of Britain. The RAF was made up of fighter pilots fro Poland, Israel, America Canada, and India. There were also Checkz, and dutch pilots. AT the time you mentioned there were no Thousand bomber raids, as the RAF did not possess A Thousand bombers to Undertake a raid.. The first air raid of this type was a combined effort with the RAF and american bombers, and the targets were all military installations, Hamburg, Bremen, Dortmund, And Dresden.ETc. At that time, This type of raid was not covered by the Geneva Convention, as this type of Bombing raid had no precedence is aerial warfare.

Well, some quick info, the Soviets came in from the west, fought a pretty close quarter bloody battle with the German. The U.S. and Britain came in from the east. I would use good `ole wikipedia.

Well due to political considerations the Allies allow the Russians to take Berlin. A great book on the subject is "The Day The War Ended"
