ok, I am thinking about going into the marine corp as a corrections specialist... it has that i have to be 19 years old.... but i will turn 19 when i am in ait.... so does that count?? or will i have to wait longer??
and i know ill have to live in barracks threw basic and ait... but after that can my family live on base with me? or how does that work?

I'm not sure what recruiter answered your questions, there are some major problems with your question. You do not have to be 19 to do a specific job in the corp, as a corrections officer, you would be an M.P., also we do not have A.I.T, the term is M.C.T (Marine Combat Training). Yes you will be living in a barracks during Boot Camp, and M.C.T. As far a family when you get to the fleet Marine Corp, yes your dependents I.E husband, and child will have housing available on or off base. Hope this helped. |

Most likely you will not be able to have your family live with you on base. You will have to rent an apartment off post. There is only limited on basing housing for families and there is usually a long waiting list.
If you are just thinking of joining the corps and you won't be 19 until you are in AIT, that means you are just 18. Where does this family come in. I'm guessing that means you are married and have a kid already.

You would have to ask your recruiter about the Corrections job. I would think that you would have to be 19 when you signed your contract if age is a factor.
As far as your family..are married? If you are married, your family can move with you to your first duty station. If you are single, you will be in the barracks. The only people authorized to live with you are your dependents. That's spouse and children only. No parents, brothers, sisters, etc. |

woa kid. first off Marine is always capitilized. 2nd.. we have no "basic" its boot camp. i went threw it..3 months of hell is not basic. 3rd. there is no "ait". its MCT.. Marine Combat Training. and we have no mos as a corrections specialist. Its MP, Military police. the age thing you can get a waiver for. you have to be at least a LCpl in order to rate to live in base housing wit ur family..but there is a waiting list..and NCO's wil get priority befor you do |
