Has anyone used the Armed Forces Vacation Club?

I have. My wife and I used the AFVC on our honeymoon to stay at a nice resort in Kissimmee (near Orlando). I think after taxes it was still under $400 for a full week. Typically when you are looking at the resorts on the website they will list on the bottom if they require a security deposit, but that is refunded. Read everything first to help you make the best decision. That said, some of the resorts they use will try to sell you a timeshare when you get there...the special guest breakfast. They called us the first two days and then I just unplugged the phone lol. The staff never came by the room, except to clean and when we checked out nothing was said about it. They were always friendly. They can't force you to go them, but if you feel like sitting through the presentation they usually will give you something free.

I plan on using AFVC again and recommend them to lots of friends in the Navy.

**Note: You do not have to really "join a club" or pay fees for AFVC. I used them and have never been contacted again about it. They are more of a booking agent than anything in my eyes and they have way way way way more resorts than the Armed Forces Recreation Centers. You aren't "tied down" to the club and like I said, there are so many more options than the AFRC which has I think like 5? AFVC has more than one resort in most all they countries they are in: Indonesia, Malaysia, Australia, Malta, Greece, Italy, US, Canada, France, Germany and the list goes on. Don't diss it just because you don't know about it.

Nope, I used it to vacation in Hawaii, was a great trip! They do book up in advance though, had to plan my vacation 9 months ahead.

I second what DanJ just said. AFVC is awesome. I've used it a couple of times and going to use it again next week. You tell me what Armed Forces Rec Center can get you a fully furnished condo that sleeps 6 people at Virginia Beach for $300 for one entire week? Most of those places down there are $300 per day! You can even use it to make a reservation for a friend or family member in your name. However, the only real draw back to it, that because the prices are so great and a lot of people seemed to have recently (within the last 3 years) found out about it, some of the more popular areas have quite a long waiting list.

Nope, seemed kind of a waste since there are Armed Forces Recreation Centers all over the place. Why join a club and get tied down to where and when to travel?

By the way, the wife and I went to Hawaii last December and stayed at the Hali Koa and Kilauea Military Camp...it was awesome!
