My Vietnam vet uncle still hates "hippies". Most of the guys I served with in Afghanistan and Iraq hate modern libs for being lying @$$holes. My wife and her soldiers don't like them either, and one of my buddies, right now serving as a Company XO in Iraq has a t-shirt that says "hippies make me angry, very angry". Most of his soldiers feel the same way.
As for "the economist", he may know economics, but he doesn't know history. Vietnam heated up through the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution. That resolution was put forward by Lyndon Johnson DEMOCRAT, and was overwhelmingly passed by both the House of Representatives (DEMOCRATIC control) and the Senate (DEMOCRATIC control). Yet, in his mind, it is the "evil conservatives" that sent people to Vietnam. Simpering idot needs to do some reading. |

I'm still trying to decide whether or not to forgive you cons for lying everytime you ask a question. |

Have they forgiven the conservatives for sending them off to get killed just so they could test new Helicopters? |

Lets pretend for a second what you say is true, Liberals Learned a HUGE lesson... So are you mad because liberals can learn things while conservatives cannot? |

I must laugh at the face of some of you questioners that still fall prey to hoaxsters.
It's the hateful republicans that tried to crucify President Clinton from the day he and his lovely wife set foot in the White House, and you're still at it, calling her every vile name that so easily pours out of a republican's mouth..
Here's a link that totally discredits the hogwash you took the time to post.
Read it and learn something.

Nam vets were spat upon. It happened to my dad and he never even saw combat. |

I know lots of liberals and I know of no liberal who has or would spit on an American soldier. That's despicable!
The soldiers deserve better support than the current administration has given them, especially, the lack of medical care and outpatient assistance.
I want to stop the slaughter in the Middle East and extend our care for vets far beyond the status quo. They deserve better!
... just one liberal's opinion. |

I don't know about Vietnam, but I can tell you about Iraq. I've seen people picketing, protesting near one of our bases and yes, I was spit at, but not on. They also threw rocks at us, and we almost had to launch tear gas at them. I've been called a murderer, rapist, baby killer, etc. It's sad to me how they're all so quick to assume that veterans are all these terrible things when they clearly don't have the slightest clue about what the military is really like, or what a war is really like.
As far as your original question though, I try not to think much of it, but it does get to me sometimes. I don't hold any ill will, I just wish that people were better educated before they start throwing accusations and insults everywhere. |

I'm a liberal, married to a marine, and support him 100%. I may have my doubts about the way the war is being run, but I know that my husband is doing his job, and doing it well. Personally, I was not yet born during vietnam and don't see any reason why I should be expected to apologize for the bad behavior of liberals from 40 years ago. I DO support the troops, whether you choose to believe it or not. |

You know, when I was a military aircrew member I often found myself hurtling through the air at 30,000 feet and 400 miles per hour while sitting between two people who were both just as likely to be "conservative" as they were to be "liberal". On the whole, I would say that I encountered much more intelligence in my fellow servicemembers then I have since leaving. In light of these facts, I am forced to label this question 100% stupid.
That being said, you should consider 1 thing: if someone were to spit on me, I would feel the need to hit them. Hard. If I were wearing my country's uniform, I would restrain myself. However, I no longer wear my country's uniform (on the outside), and while that fact brings me down on occasion, happily I would no longer be forced to keep myself from hurting someone who spit on my brothers and sisters. Have yourself a great day! |

That (spitting on returning soldiers) never happened. The majority of the military was against the Vietnam war and many were in open revolt "fragging" commnading officers.
Watch the movie Sir, No Sir and you'll get an education on this matter. |

No Vietnam vets were ever spit upon. There are no photos of such ever happening and there were never any credible media reports of that happening at the time. The whole spitting thing is a myth dreamed up by right-wingers. One of my close friends came back from Vietnam with only one good eye and he hated the army and the war. When he got back, the whole gang hung around together just like old times. |

I'm a Vietnam vet. But I don't ever recall a liberal or anybody else asking for my forgiveness. Their problem, not mine. |

Revisionist history does not change the facts.
More than one Viet Nam Vet has told me they were spit on. It is a despicable act and thanks to HIV now considered "assault" which allows me the right to self defense. This last detail may be why they're not doing it now.
On the 4th of July, of this year, a war protestor shot and nearly killed an Airman returning from a trip to see his family.
I suppose they will deny this happened as well, since the media didn't report on it much. See my article "Little Covered News-1"

No politics. Just the groundtruth from a combat veteran that has been to both fronts. |

The military has not forgiven them which is exactly why you do not see candidates from the democrat side going to visit the troops in Iraq.John Kerry went to Iraq after the 2004 election. The troops refused to take photo ops with Kerry. The Liberal Democrats HATE the Military and the Military knows it.Our Boys are smarter than what Kerry and the Libs. give them credit for!! |

Don't be ridiculous. The Democratic Party has always been the traditional party for military families, and opposition to an unjust war in no way constitutes hatred for soldiers. All of my military uncles who fought in World War II were opposed to the Vietnam adventure, and my one surviving uncle is opposed to the debacle in Iraq. |
