If you remember, I was quick to defend you against some dude who questioned whether or not you, or anyone else for that matter, were a true veteran if he or she didn't serve in a war.

(He had served in Vietnam, and was thinking this made him somehow superior to vets who hadn't?)

Anyone who serves in the military is a veteran?

P.S. From a soldier who wore his Jungle Expert patch with pride!

Ok pal, I have done my bit but haven't seen any action, no reason to doubt or contradict you. I can only congratulate you for being alive and for your sacrifice.

I really don't let it bother me when they question my service. I know what I've done and what I'm doing. If people don't want to believe me I won't force them. It's when people tell me why on earth would I want to join up, or they tell me I was stupid for doing so during a time of war, rather than going to college. I swear to defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, forgein and domestic.

Actually Earnest, I don't care what they think. You know and I know you served, and was in Panama, thus the strong resume on Jungle Warfare. The point being, this is the net, and anyone can be anything they want to be. We users have no idea if it's true what people claim to be. We see many trolls, out right lies and obvious made up stories on here. I am proud of my service as I am sure you are of yours and you should be. I would like to point out that many so called veterans (imposters), claim to have served and then turn around and slam the military in an attempt to discredit the war. I understand dissent and I understand that all veterans do not agree with this war, but to slam the military in thier service to their country is paramount to treason. We service members do not dictate policy, we enforce it. We do not like war, because we fight them, but when our country gives us a mission, it is our duty to complete it in an honorable manner. When our service is complete and we begin our civilian lives, we then must take on the responsibilities of citizenship. Those responsibilities include insuring that our fellow service members are not put in harms ways, unneccessarily or unjustly. I agree with this war, for the simple reason we were attacked by terrorist fighting a guerrella conflict anyway and everywhere they can. If we do not take the war to them, then they will certainly bring it to us. Now I am sure, other Veterans disagree with this reasoning as does Burt, but they have the right. I do not question Burts service just because he disagrees with me, he and all veterans have earned the right and paid their dues. So the bottom line is, let them question your service, embrace it, because in the long run, we will ferret the imposter off the net.

I am also an Army veteran, but unfortunately there are too many poseurs in Y/A to just accept someone's claims of being a veteran of any service. Anyone claiming to be a veteran (or worse, active duty) had better be able to prove it, and most in here, making that claim, cannot. There are a lot of claims for various things and mostly I don't care, but about being a veteran, I care very much about bogus claims.

"A Salamander once told me he was a Brontosaurus on his mother's side: I didn't disabuse him of his illusions, they meant nothing and made the Salamander feel better about himself" (Paraphrased from "Time Enough for Love" -Robert A Heinlein).

I understand where youre coming from, but as a veteran, I will continue to question others who make the claim, if they can prove their claim, I respect their service, if they cannot, I lump them in with others in here who are too cowardly to pick up arms in the defense of their country, but see nothing wrong with sending OTHERS off to die in their stead.

I take EVERYTHING I read in here with several LARGE grains of salt. And in 4 years, 10 months of Army service, I earned 3 Army Commendations (one classified) and 5 Army Achievement Medals, along with at least 20 Certificates of Achievement for everything from participating in CPXs to painting a huge 6X6 mural of Uncle Sam for the 1985 Army Birthday Ball. And ya know what? I could use not ONE of them to buy food. Don't be too proud of medals: They're what you get when you can't get a raise (lol).

And "being a true patriot", means nothing, the words are semantically null. The phrase "True Patriot" means different things to different people, just as the phrase "Traditional Family Values" does.
Being a "True Patriot" of the Soviet Union got you called a Commie, being a "True Patriot", i.e., struggling to resist an illegal war (even though they served with honor and distrinction) got John Kerry, John McCain and John Murtha (to name just a few) nothing but disrespect and hatred from Republicans, the same Reps who wouldn't join the military to fight for their country of they were the only people in the country left.

Never really came up, wouldn't bother me if it did.
I know where I served, for how long, and why.
That's all that matters.

Well I was in the Navy from '67 to '71 and boy what I would have loved to travel with you on some of your campaigns. I miss the jungles and the far away places. Never doubt anyone, unless they prove themselves wrong through their actions, then just forget about them. If you start telling others about them, then they end up doing something stupid. Maybe not to you, but to someone around them. Remember that grain of salt? That is about all you can take these 'people' with.

gunplumber_462
I really don't care what anyone thinks of my military service (or claims for their own). This is Yahoo Answers and the only impressive thing here is the quality of the answers you can supply, NOT your claimed military resume.

i know that my husband doesn't really brag about his awards or medals...he knows what he's done so far for the army and if people don't believe him oh well...they don't know him and their opinions really doesn't mean sh*t to him....if you feel the need to defend you medals and awards then you need to have some acknowledgment then more power to you...

I have to say thank you first. And yes when some one on here asks this statement they are part of a left unit of idiots who try to attack to silence any others.
For me I did not serve as in 75 the draft ended but through school I was going and wish I had just to put it back in the other of my age who are cowards. I have sons and each one is ready to go and I would as well now in a heart beat as we face the worst time in the history of the US with Islam and idea that wants us dead or slaves. And the mind dead left can not and will not see this.

I don't care what other people question. Its their right. I am prood of the fact, I defended that right when it was my turn. Other than that it really don't matter.

No,if they weren't there,they don't know.
Only those who were at a particular place ,at a particular time, actually know the real story.

I got my JWE in Panama,1968.
After a tour in Nam,infantry.
That was real OJT.

Don't take this the wrong way....

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, and accept the above resume.

However, to get this upset over what 'another user' (I'm assuming you mean a YA! user) says in an anonymous forum...well, that's just plain dumb.

You need to get a handle on what's important in life. Nothing that ANYONE says in YA! should be cause to get your heart pumping, especially if it's meant to disparage you. No one here knows you. Why would you take thier comments to heart?

Old Scout
Naw, I don't mind, gives me a chance to brag a bit. I like taking the "did you really serve test". So, do you miss leaning up against the black palms? Just kidding.

Why did they only give you an AAM for achieving the highest honor in your field? Seems like you got hosed there because they give those out like candy nowadays. Well anyways thanks for your service.

Yes. You can always count on it when it comes to the peace talking Liberal Democrats. While they didn't go into the military, they are total experts on anything military. Oh, yeah. I'm with you. I'm pissed. And thank you for your military service, too. Anyone else with me?

I understand why it infuriates.

Having grown up on and near Naval installations in the '70s and '80s, it was made clear the damage the so-called 'peace people' caused to our military in the wake of Vietnam. And to now hear some of these former leftist hippies claim they remember the smell of JP-5 jet fuel burning shite when they got off the plane in Da Nang makes me want to puke.

Same thing now. Suddenly these same people were also in Ramadi.
I'm just disgusted by it all.
Thank you for not only serving America but also for making the world a better place.

SW
Wow! All that bragging must mean serious poor self-image.

Just another macho ********.

Sacrifice for what? for your leader's ambitions?
