What is training like and do the Cavalry scouts still do traditional work in iraq or afganistan?

You'll be going to Ft Knox Ky for OSUT (One Station Unit Training).
Disney Barracks. 5/15 or 6/16 Cav.
OSUT runs straight thru and instead of the traditional Basic/AIT, there is little distinction between the two. At least there didn't used to be.
You'll fire a variety of different weapons. you'll walk, run and road march alot.
you'll have a Family day, or break of about a day and a half..............right around mid cycle.
Scouts get assigned to three kinds of roles....Light Scouts......a lot like light infantry.
Wheeled Scouts....HMMWV's
Heavy or Mech Scouts.......Bradleys or Strykers.
In addition, you can attend Ranger School, Airborne School, Air Assualt, Pathfinder, Recon leaders Course and Bradley Master Gunner Course.
But if you go to Afganistan? You'll function as Infantry. |
