Help preparing for the Marines?

I'm attending a 4-year university and I've decided that after graduating I would like to enlist in the Marines. I was wondering if there's certain degrees that are good to have when you sign up, like if I should change my major.

Also physically I'm aware I'll need to be in insanely good shape, I still have 2 or 3 years left in my college career, so I'll have some time to prepare. What are some physical goals I can set so I'll be better prepared for Boot Camp?

Thanks so much for any help.

Call the OSO (Officer Selection Officer), you should become an officer. not only will you make money but it is more respected all around. If the Marine Corps is not for you after your time is up, you will be more marketable. Many company are looking for Junior Grade officer to hire. They are aware of your traning and know that you have leadership skill, plus you already have a college degree.

Call a local recruiting office and ask for the OSO's number and set up an interview. as long as you don't have police involvement or a drug issue, you will be fine. they have a program called the PLC (Platoon Leaders Course) that will get you physically and mentally ready for the Marine Corps.

As for the type of degree, not a problem. as long as you have a degree you are good. History is a common degree in the Military.

My daughter used the pre-entry program during her last year of high school. Talk to your Marine recruiter to see if there is such a program in your area. They met weekends or after school. Helped to get in shape physically & learn some basic Marine information B4 boot camp.

We had lived a pretty rough life in country.
After boot camp came "hell week" or something where they were put through rigors of war like conditions. My daughter wrote to me one night when all her mates were sleeping from exhaustion. She said, "Every one is complaining, but it's really no different than when we lived in. (hometown)."

She was 17 y.o. female with "C" avg. grades. She did just fine due to her life experience & pre-entry program. She said you just have to keep in mind that you're in a brotherhood & your actions affect everyone beside you. Get out of the "it's all about me" mind frame. She said was very easy to pull off some of the duties when realizing it helped the whole instead of being a burden just on her shoulders whether she was alone performing duty or not.

Summary: Talk to recruiter for info. to help you be best Marine from the jump.

Physically, you know the drill. Push ups, Crunches, Pull ups. The marines are known for their use of the pullup in lieu of the Army pushup. and RUN, RUN, RUN, RUN. Man Marines run for miles dude. But the physical training (PT) is only part of it. You've got to know how to let go of your pride when you got a Drill Instructor screaming in your face. Hey, run for like three or four miles a day, gradually increasing the time and intensity of your runs, acclimating your body to the physical stress you know you'll encounter, plus try to be able to hit thirty pullups by the time you ship for boot. Good luck. Dominus Prubiscum.
