been in for 15 years, seen a lot of the world that i normally wouldn't have, met some very interesting people, been to iraq twice, and i am fine. i wouldn't trade my experiences in the army for anything. i've had fun and i've had some misery as well. its not for everybody. but if its something that you want to do, do it. |

Don't do it just because your family did. Do it because its your passion to serve your country. I have extreme respect for anyone who can even consider this. Not the country or the world would be what it is without selfless people like you.
There is also always the reserves if you aren't quite sure. |

It feels great to do something for your country for once. The feeling is everlasting and life changing! Go for it - you sound ready. |

Have a GREAT day!
|
its not worth it. if you want to help your country, become a lawyer. a fair lawyer or something. i bet your views on the military and patriotism with fade away once you get your arm blown off. for me it was the biggest waste of time in the world. have you been to college or anything? why dont you try that first before sigining your life away to the government? |

i had fun for 20 years but i wouldn't join it until we get a better president...i'm not saying iraq is wrong or right but i AM saying that anyone stupid enough to hire donald rumsfelfd is someone i wouldn't work for |

Gotta have more explosions!

Don't do it because you're unsure what to do as a civilian, or because of your family or especially because biased people suggested it.
Join the military because you're sure it's what you want, because you want the lifestyle and you can rationalize being deployed anywhere. Ask your family members about the benefits and (more importantly) the downsides to joining. The military can be a hard life, and it's not for wishy-washy maybe people. |

To be honest, people join the service for many different reasons- family history, college money and a good paycheck with health benefits and housing. None of these reasons are valid by themselves, in my opionion. The service is just that-it's service. There is a career path, but for the most part you are at the beck and call of the branch you join and the chain of command. Your rights are on hold while you secure other peoples rights. I joined to give back to my country- I wanted to serve. I knew it was only for certain amount of time, but I did it and I am proud. I would suggest that unless you truly want to do this out of a sense of duty and servitude, do not join. If you rise to the call and challenge, then it will be rewarding, and could make a great career. However, the time to decide if you like the military life isn't when you're already enlisted. If I have one suggesstion, look at all branches and maybe spend time with real soldiers. Don't get hyped up on patriotic videos, the benifts etc.. In my opinion, the best branch to join would be the Air Force-but there are many to choose (Marines, Navy, Army, National Gaurd, Coast Gaurd and Reserve) Good luck! |

join cause you want to fight for your freedom, and the freedom of shitheads in the usa. fight for your rights and your familys rights.
going to iraq is bad, but your not the first one that would go, and wouldn't be the last one either.
they do not offer FREE housing in the army, most of it is privatized, and you have to pay rent, just like off post. you also have to pay utilities if you 'go over' your alloted amount.
so , the health care is the same as welfare. shitty drs. that tell you the wrong things over and over, just to get the money, and it took me 4 yrs to get a dr. to tell me i dislocated my minscus in my knee, and when i wanted the surgery, he wouldn't operate in a 'CLEAN ' hospital, even though my insurance covered it.
so you really have to want to go into the service, not just for the money or college edu.
also, if you go in, don't get anything less than a 3-4 yr enlistment for 20K, they can do it, you have to demand it!!!
and yeah, go air force, they get housing allowance, and more housing substandard allowance-if stationed on a army base. air force has the best stuff available. |

Since you don't know what the hell you're doing you better go into either the navy or the marines! Just stay as far away from the US Army or the US Air Force as possible! They don't want or need your kind! |
