hint: we're not at war with iran. and if you think we should be, you should sign up now and avoid the rush. i think that's actually why amnesty is being considered. would you be happy if most of them signed up after they were made citizens? |

Well there's 1 problem with that. Remember when Rome used German mercs to fight for them? They had no loyalty to Rome and therefore didn't fight as hard. Is that what America needs? |

If the illegal immigrants volunteered to fight in exchange for citizenship do you think that they would make an all out effort as do the patriotic guys who are fighting now? Or do you think that they would just do the minimum required so they would get by and come back?
I would say that they might be given an opportunity if they had to stay the entire 8 years on active duty. They would have to be in a non-sensitive area. |

Why would they fight for our country? Why would they fight for citizenship?
They already receive free healthcare, free education, free social services. Not to mention, they receive retroactive payments on stolen social security numbers for which they never paid tax.
On top of that, Bush wants to just give them amnesty.
Why would they want to put their lives on the line? Why buy the milk when you can get the cow for free? |

Hey Philosopher,
I am sorry to ruin your day... Every week we have swearing in ceremonies for alien citizens who are signing up for our military. Any person that wishes to gain citizenship in the U.S. only needs to enter a recruiting station and say they'd like to sign-up.
They are brought, after a background check, to courthouses and INS centers all over the U.S. (Here in San Diego, they actually do it on Aircraft carriers for the Navy -- Hundreds every month), there they swear them in and BAM! They are legal!
But I am going to ruin my chances for best answer for what I am about to say:
ONCE THEY ARE SWORN IN, THEY ARE VALUABLE AMERICAN LIVES!
Sorry to break it to you Redneck, but I would prefer 1 of them to 10,000 of you to protect the shores of this country. I am pretty sure that in the event of an attack, you would have your VALUABLE American life -- sitting up in Canada!

Thats a great idea, except history shows that there is always payback.. Did you hear about the crusades. Arabs think we still have payback coming for that. There are no easy answers, oh but waite maybe there is. If people who do very little did not get the biggest incomes maybe then there would be fewer poor, and oh my God it would be hard to find people to fight if there were not so many reasons to be dissatisfied. Do you think these terrorists are happy people who had high standards of living and thought things were just being done too fairly. Think aboutit. is it a good idea for a CEO or ball player to receive millions for lets say 8 hours of work a day, and someone you entrust with the picking (thus close proximity to your food) to get a few dollars for 70 hours a week. There is the problem. This is a class war and the users have got us fighting each other, not the first time. It is war and the enemy is not workers but the answers are just not that simple except in all the Holy books where it says to share. |

Never work. Plus we are not at war with Iran (yet). Our government does not advertise to use mercenaries (which is basiclly what this option would be) although I personally feel and believe that we are doing it in a round about way by paying all the countries that are helping in the war on terror.
As far as illegals or foreigners fighting for the US, if you would check the INS statistics each year thousands of foreign born people are sworn in as citzens after having served in the various branches of the US Military. As a retired army veteran I have served with many such people from hundreds of dfferent countries. |
