How can I become a surgeon through the Navy?

Like not just a field surgeon but one that also specializes in certain parts of the body? Does the Navy have a special Med. School you go to? and how long does it take? Just give me a shakethrough from beginning to leaving the service please.

If you are really serious about a career in medicine and dead set on it DO NOT do NROTC. You want to choose a good college that has a reputable pre-med program and get good grades. During your junior year of undergrad you will begin to apply to medical schools - at that time you can choose to apply to USUHS (the joint military medical school), also you should apply to other medical schools you are interested. Once you are accepted into any medical school THEN contact a MEDICAL Navy recruiter and tell them you are interested in becoming a surgeon in the Navy - they will take it from there. There is also the option of going to medical school without the Navy's help and after graduation you can commission in. Anyway you slice it, you need to get into and complete medical school to be a doctor/surgeon in the United States Navy |

you will need to be an officer and go to officer school as well. and that is way easier said than done, but talk to a recruiter he/she will know much more about programs for that than I will, i would reccomend being a coremen (navy medic) if you cant get surgeon because im pretty sure you need college to be a surgeon. they just wont send you to school for that, it will be alot of hard work. if you decide just to enlist then I would reccomend coremen (Navy medic) they will send you to school for that and you will learn EMT |

do NROTC at a college that provides pre med.
i think it should take just as long as a regular surgeon/doctor would take, so about 8/9 years from undergrad to having your own practice.
