How can I help my DWI sentence from affecting my Army enlistment?

I recently got nailed with a DWI. I have plans of joining the Army in active duty. I have already been convicted and am currently on unsupervised probation. Has anyone ever heard of a D.A. or Judge deactivating a sentence on the grounds of being eligible for the military?

You can ask the judge to consider that you want to join the Army but if your paperwork says anywhere on it that the charges are being dropped on the condition that you join the military then you are disqualified for enlistment. You have to list your DWI regardless of the outcome of the court and if the charges are dropped you would still need a sutibility review. If the final disposition is unfavorable then you need a waiver and because of the amount of people trying to get in now due to the economy it is unlikely you would get that waiver right away, if ever. Some charges that result in unsupervised probation won't stop you from enlisting before the probation period is over. DWI isn't one of them, so you would have to wait until your probation is over.

Sometimes you can take diversion classes to get your DWI removed from your record. That is, if this is your first one. If this isn't your first one, you're out of luck.

No. You can't even begin to enlist until you paid all your debts to society. Until all your civil action is done with you are stuck. More than likely you won't be able to get a clearance either if they even let you in because you require a waiver now.

Maybe about 30 years ago they did stuff like that. You can see if your recruiter has a good repor with the DA and see if it can be expunged. It's worth a try at the very least. You can't hide anyway.
