Firstly, an NCO needs to earn the respect and confidence of those under them, once this is done there are rarely any discipline problems.
If you need something done then give a reason why it needs to be done. "Please" never hurts and costs nothing, neither does praise when something is done well.
There are several styles of leadership, the autocratic style will get you nowhere fast. |

not sure exactly but this is what we do in my atc squadron
1) dont say please or anything like that, tell them dont ask them
2)if disobey send them to a room near the back or an office if you have one (the corporal/nco's office)
3) if continous casually mention it to another nco around a sargeant/ higher ranked nco or staff |

we keep discipline at a high standard in my unit by:
1) NEVER say please
2) ALWAYS be confident in yourself, what you are doing and what you are teaching to allow others to become confident in you
3) Give direct punishments straight away rather than telling them later, unless on a parade ofcourse however no parade should have any movement or any disruptions on it at all, ITS UNPROFESSIONAL.
4) Make it clear that threats are not made unless you are willing to follow them up
5) Keep enthusiasm in the unit to make the cadets want to achieve more and be better with a much better discipline and attitude.
