How can i convince my Mom to let me join the Marines?

Shes scared that I could die.. She also thinks that the MArines or any armed forces are crazy..

You could walk out to goto the shops and get hit by a car and die also.

How old are you if you're over 18, than there is not much she can do to stop you from signing.

We all know mothers are worriers. Tell her you want to serve your country and make them proud.

The armed forces are honourable and noble, teach you life skills and discipline.

It will teach you respect and if you decide to leave after your contract is up, looks really good on a resume.

People die every day, which i no your mom doesnt want to hear, but at least you werent left with a what if.
Im sure once she sees you complete boot camp etc, she'll be proud of you, but seeing she is a mother she will always be a worrier.
Maybe suggest she meet the recruiter so they can ease some of her worries.

Just let her know it's something you really want to do and if you could have her support, it would mean a lot to you. Other than that, it's probably just something she'll either get used to or will always have a problem with...

Good luck!

If you are of legal age of consent, your mother cannot stop you from enlisting. The military is an honorable profession and the dangers that go with it is inherent to the trade. Even in peacetime you may have a fatal accident however if you take a look at the number of men/women between 18-25 that have died in the peaceable United States compared to the 4,030 combat deaths in Iraq these past 5 years you stand a better chance of dying here in the civilian sector of our country. Nam vet 63-78

Sit down with her and discuss your options for joining the Marines. Remind her that the Marines or any United States military branch is a very honorable profession. Its not everyone who has the courage to make the defense of their country their personal responsibility. Like any branch the Marines offer a slew of professions. i.e. paper pushers, infantry, armor, aircraft maintenance, electronic attack, combat aircrewman, ect... the list goes on and on. The fact is you could die. But its a risk you will take. And some of the things you take with you are honor, courage and commitment. You will make life long friends, true friends. Friendship that joe civilian could never comprehend. But in the end its YOUR choice. Just don't be on of those liberal cowards who sit behind closed doors and make unfounded accusations.

Sit down and tell her what you want to do with your life, and becoming a Marine is a part of it. Tell her you know the risk involved of becoming a Marine. My mom was the same way when I first told her I wanted to become a Marine, but she got over it and now is really proud of me. joining any branch of the military is a selfless act, and many parents should be proud that their child is is so brave. Don't listen to the people telling you not to join, it's not their life it's yours. Do what you want to do.

jtk15sc
sit her down with a recruiter and have him answer her questions...

this will probably not convince her to change her mind, but it will alleviate some of her fears and misconceptions.

Once you are 18 its not her decision anymore

If YOU want to be part of something AMAZING, men and women full of courage, strength and power.... join the military

Bomb Iraq
Don't base your decisions on what your mom thinks you should do, if you want to join the Marine Corps then join the Marine Corps.

bs
you should sit down and talk to her about this. first off just cuz you join the Marines, it doesn't mean you're going through boot camp then to iraq. second of all, you'll learn a job that you can carry out into the real world when you're done. (some jobs you can use out here anyway lol) being a Marine, you'll get to see different places, meet new people, and gain a pride and self confidence you can't even believe. i've known some Marines, and their good people. third, you need to let her know this is your choice and you want to do it. i wish you well and thank you in advance for your service.

DietrichVonQuint
Have a sit down with your mother. If she will not sign the waiver then wait till your are 18. Besides all those jokes of the Marines being crazy or dumb are just that, jokes.

If you want to convince your mother that this is something that you really want to do, then do your research on what it means to be a Marine. What will you be doing if you join, where Marines work at, where they can be stationed. Do you qualify for a school? A bonus? Find out as much as you can before you sign the dotted line. After all of that, I'd sit your mother down with someone who was/is in the Marine Corps and let her ask questions.

Also keep in mind that she makes a valid point about dieing...although it is important to acknowledge her concern, I would not dismiss it. Just let her know that you understand the risks involved and you are ready to make the commitment.

Good luck!

Your Mom can't tell you how to live your life once you turn 18. If this is what you really want to do then do it. Prepare for it now. You will need your actual social security card and a certified copy or your original birth certificate. As soon as you turn 18 you can go to the recruiting office and enlist yourself without her permission. Your mother is worried but being in the military or a Marine is nothing to be ashamed of. Your mother just has personal and political views different than yours and there in nothing you can ever tell her to make her feel differently about things. If you want this then do it. There is no way after you graduate from boot camp that she can't be proud of what you have accomplished. If she is then so be it. There are thousands of military people that do what they do everyday without any or minimal support from their families. It will be her job to accept you the way you are and if she doesn't it is her loss not yours. You cannot remain a little boy under her control forever. You would move out of her home some day and any choice you make may not be her choice. That includes choosing the wrong college of full time civilian job. You won't always make your mommy happy, but being a Marine is something you can and should be very proud of. If you want more information on the Marines, go talk to a recruiter. You can talk to them all you want before you enlist even if you aren't 18, you just cannot enlist until you are 18. Ask them anything and everything about this life you are think about. Good luck with becoming an adult and your own man.

life goes on
how old are you ?
if youre 18 you can but your mom loves you and doesnt want you in harms way .
im sure if you dont listen you will be very sorry

Havoc
wow, this is kind of hard...
just tell her you'll be a Marine serving on a CV
safe and away from most of the fighting

Renewable
Don;t bother, take a leaf out of the politicians book and get yourself a proper job that does not put your life in danger.
.
Remember, if you do join the Marines you will be fighting to protect the interests of the oil industry and big business not the American people so think again your Momma is right.

If you HAVE to join the military, try a branch where brains come in handy, like the Air Force or the Navy. Get in on some cutting edge technology.

Ground pounder? Just a target.

DON'T...unless you have nothing else to do....no where to go. There's just no telling what will happen if McCain wins the election...WWIII. However, if Ron Paul wins, then your mother will have nothing to fear for.

Elect a Democrat. McCain will keep us in Iraq for another 100 years. That's what your mom is afraid of.
