Be man enough to honor your contract. I'm sure your mama told you that it is OK not to keep your word as you probably never have.
But you promised to defend me and I expect you to do so as I protected you and your mama when I did my service to the country. |

Cross your eyes and say, "My mom thinks I'm special". Tell them you took Ritalin as a child. Tell them you're gay. Injure your feet or knees. Fail your firearm test. Man, there are all sorts of things that will get you an honorable discharge.
Of course the "honorable" thing to do is grow a pair and stand by your word. You quit this and you'll quit everything you do for the rest of your life. Marriage, career, faith, everything man. And this point will be the six degrees of separation between what you are (a quitter/loser) and what you could have become (a winner). |

Lots of people ask that question to themselves when they enter the army or any branch of service. It depends how long you have been in to determine your frame of mind. If you a newbie and still in BCT or AIT, then you are probably a little homesick. If you have been in a while, then you may have problems elsewhere. Most problems can be solved but with proper decision making and good judgment.
I assume you believe you made a bad decision with your enlistment or asking for someone else. Well, the proper answer to your question is simple, it is called ETS. Now if you are a service member then you will understand this acronym. However, there are other ways to get out early but most will require you to do time in confinement in which case your ETS could be sooner then your prison sentence. Oh, there are alternative methods to getting out and those will not look on your DD214 as it will state Less the Honorable or Bad Conduct Discharge. Basically, you have the ability to make the call, tell them you are gay, and they will probably investigate to see if you are joking around. With the manpower shortages, I really doubt claiming to be gay will work now. However, if you push enough buttons, then you will probably be sent packing. There is another method, smoke a lot of dope and admit yourself for counseling but that will take repeated attempts. Oh, with all the above, you are taking a big risk, losing your G.I. Bill entitlements and other good stuff you were briefed about when you signed the dotted line and raised your right hand.
I had a soldier tell me he was not deploying to a war zone because he was a “conscientious objector” (I sure hope I spelled that correctly). He just came up with that spur of the moment. I had some bad news for him, I challenged him by saying that is not possible, the military is an all volunteer force and you can not wait until the day before deployment to come up with that line. Needless to say, his little sweet California liberal social backside did the duffle bag drag to the airfield with the rest of us. He should have claimed that status long before the deployment.
So, you really need to take the pain, serve your time, and meet your commitment and obligations. |

I think it depends on what your job is in the army and how much they have invested in training you. If you were a soldier with a lot of physical demands, and you broke your leg severely, or had it amputated, they would probably just reassign you to a desk job after you recovered, to complete your committment. They would try to find another place for you somewhere rather than discharge you. I don't think the 'gay" thing works anymore. |

Serve your tour, or smoke a lot of pot, and forget about having a GI Bill, or just shoot yourself in the eye, any of these might prove that you're a man, and you'll be released!!!! |

Stop taking orders and sleep in... or stop bathing, get a prayer mat and start praising Allah..durka durka. Be a man and finsh what your started. |

Well you could 'cowboy up' and do your time
or punk out and break your commitment by going AWOL, suicide, doing illegal drugs, disobeying orders (posting questions here and having these thoughts is a start).
If you don't have an 'exit strategy' and have to ask strangers, then you aren't serious. Go back to work or go play a video game. Grown ups have a country to defend 'leaf-eater'. |

Wow, there are a lot of really bad answers here for you. The best one is for you to simply finish your tour of duty and quit whinning. You made the commitment, now put your big boy pants on and deal with it. |

Ignore any stupid answers on here that suggest self harm for a start!
How long have you been in mate? Are you in basic training or have you served for a year or more? If you're training, then first talk to your family. If no family then talk to the person you trust most in the world. You must have a reason for wanting to leave, and your reason will depend on how old you are/long you have served etc.
My son is a Royal Marine. He wanted to leave on his second night! However, he did stay and got his green lid, and now has a job he loves and is glad he stayed and saw it through.
They do say that when the going gets tough, the tough get going.... sometimes the hardest things in the world are the things that make life worth having. Don't do anything rash my darlin, until you've talked honestly to someone who will tell you the truth...and not just want you want to hear. Good luck Soldier x |

People say that you should finish your commitment and that you aren't a good patriot if you leave the army, but wrong is wrong no matter who does it, and if you see that the army system is wrong, it is your duty to stick to your morals and to honor God and Country by obeying your conscious. It is easier to go with the system than to go against fighting a corrupted war. One way people get out of the army is by claiming conscious objector, but the army might not grant you conscious status, it depends on how persuading your case is. You are not the first to of gotten into the army and realized later that people back home just don't know or understand what's going on, yet they are the ones to point the first finger. I assumed some things in this answer but I hope I made some sort of point. |
