talk to your recruiter and see if they can help you train any good recruiter will help you get into shape and toughened for military service the biggest challenge is road marches yes buy a pair of boots and load up a back pack with a minimum of 35lbs and start walking start out with 2 mi and work your way up to 12 mi at different paces a normal pace is a 12min mile also work on rucking through woods |

Go to the Army/Navy store and buy a brand new pair of boots and a rucksack. Wear the boots all the time. Even when you're just out running errands or whatever. Do some road marches now. Don't worry about a lot of weight in the ruck, especially at first. I think by the end of basic you're only carrying about 40 or 50 pounds in your ruck anyway. You mainly just need to get your feet toughened up. I was pretty well prepared for all the running, pushups, etc. But all that marching absolutely killed my feet. Road marches, with rucks especially, really build up your legs too which helps your run. Plus make sure whatever boot you buy is the current GI issue one. You won't have any choice in basic, even if a boot is approved for wear, in basic you WILL wear what they give you. That way after some time wearing them you can figure out if you have the right size so when they ask you what you wear you know what to say. Including even wide, regular, whatever you need. I wore a 10 regular for years. So that's what I got in basic. Well in that dang GI boot I needed an 11. By the time I figured out it wasn't just they were hard to break in, they didn't fit, it was too late to trade them in and I had another 8 weeks of basic in boots that didn't fit. I had blisters on top of blisters. And if you're really sneaky MAYBE you can sneak those nice broken in boots in with you and you'll have it made. |
