you see snipers and mini guns you tube that huge bullets and they say there 50 cal and then see people with a magnum or a dessert eagle and they say there 50 cal but there really small compared to the mini gun bullets.
explain please?

50 cal (.50) is in reference to the diameter of the round and has nothing to do with the length of the cartridge. |

Magnum rounds are larger than the standard rounds for that caliber. For example a .357 magnum is a larger version of the .38 special round, although they are the same diameter and you can fire .38 special rounds from a revolver designed to chamber .357 magnum rounds. The Desert Eagle fires the magnum version of the .50 caliber pistol round, which is still much smaller then the .50 caliber machine gun round which is what is used in .50 caliber sniper rifle. |

Diameter or circumference of the bullet, .50 caliber rounds are 12.7 mm in Diameter, not the length, weight, or shape. So the Cartridge can be small, big, and in-between. The round 1 cm too 1.5 inches long... it's still a .50 cal. |
