Because it is much faster than a helicopter the enemy has less chance to converge on a landing zone. So the V22 can get in, drop off the troops, and be gone before it needs to defend itself.
And, as mentioned there is a rear door gun, plus they are looking at forward armament. This will give similar coverage as door guns on a helicopter. It will just be front and back instead of left and right. |

Because it fly's higher and faster. Also, it is not a replacement for the medium utility helicopters, it replaces the heavy ones. |

Its logical that all that talk a lot of favorable things of the V22, it' s because they only have seen working in a video game, it's different when you fly to a hot LZ in a Huey or a Hughes little bird or a BlackHawk with a gunner on the sides doors |
