How come College students don't want to go into the military?

It's still very honorable to join the military and serve one's country but
1) everyone fears death, especially with the current leadership and not knowing where we might be fighting a war tomorrow and,
2) I don't know the statistic on this, but many people enter the military in hopes that it will be for their education afterwards. If these students are already in college and have found another means of paying for it, that's one less reason to join up, and
3) Basic training is probably seen as a big hump as well (especially with more and more people being out of shape) - a lot of people like the jobs that are available afterwards, just don't want to go through the struggle and disciplined lifestyle needed to get there.

Because the liberal media demonizes the military - because the pay stinks - because we are constantly holding them personally responsible for acts of war when they are just doing their job - because the democrats are consistently sending out the message that Bush is a war criminal. I'm surprised that we have anyone enlisting anymore.

They don't. Alot of college students have already been in the military and are using their GI bill to pay for college. There are some that are overindulged spoiled kids that have never had to work or pay for anything that take this country for granted, and believe it owes them something.

There attitude many times is, let the other guy do it. I don't need to fight for this country and get my @ss shot off, when there are so many who are willing to do, it in my place.

Some of these people have convinced themselves that we are in an unjust war, much like Vietnam. I say, that is a cop out! The war against Islam and its fanatical religious leaders will only get bigger, if we fail to draw a line in the sand.

Bill Clinton, by not responding to Islamic threats, proved that an un-challenged threat or attack, only encouraged more of it. Many incidents against the US, by Islamic terrorist, may have been discouraged, had Clinton done his job in Somalia, or the first WTC attack, or most certainly, the US Embassy attacks in Africa.

It takes courage to be a world leader, today! It takes courage to be a GI, today. We know the US can never again elect a president who lacks the courage, commitment, and tenacity of a Bill Clinton. We know too, that people who turn their backs on this country, in it's time of need, must be dealt with in a most inconvenient manner.

Not true-Service Academies-they are college students-cadets,and ROTC-half of an normal traditional college yet getting their *** trained for war at the same time.

they are there to learn adn go on with their life and may have a family on the waqy or want to have things before they die in teh army navy marines as the way the world is they usa is dying fast and sad they havent even lived.. let them live then after they are better to choose./

being now College educated they are probably over qualified for that. However for diverting pensions,outsourcing jobs and running the American businesses into the ground,they are highly qualified.Some are even very good at it.

How do you think the military gets officers? Do you, as a supposed vet, realize that military commision requires a college degree? In fact much of the military is college graduated, or attending college while in the military.

Well I guess I'm the exception. I was in the Army but ended up getting out. Now im in college and want back in but they wont take me! College students are pompous ignorant a holes.

Because tey have opther ambiitons and the military is a total obstacle and threat to their personal goals. If you wish to travel to Rome with success and return, per say, why would you listen to someone who asked you to go to Spain at a cost to you?? Hell no!!

My nephew chose to go into the military, Army Special Forces. He was a 3.0 student at Arizona State. He was raised by Democrats, but overcame this and is able to think for himself.

He was sent to Afghanistan where is patrol was ambushed by a superior Taliban force. He was wounded but led a counter attack that gave the patrol the opportunity to break free of the enclosing enemy allowing them to be picked up and pulled out safely. He was wounded again during the counter attack. In Walter Reed hospital he received his Purple Heart from President Bush. His Mom sent us a picture with the caption from her, "even though I hate Bush here is a picture of him with _____" She couldn't bring herself to mention the pride in ______'s eyes.

Primarily because the military positions itself in the employment marketplace as an employer of kids coming outof high school. I got plagued by calls from all branches of the servie as a HS student. In fact, one of the benefits that used to be pitched was: join the military and get money FOR a college education.

I guess, while that was true, all those reservists and National Guard who bought the money for school and serving two days a month and two weeks a year arguments are feeling sort of lied to.

Fear, and I don't blame them. To many wars. Used to be a good way to get an education, now you can end up on the other side of the world, having to fight for something you don't even believe in.
