How come so many Republicans are jumping ship and saying the Iraq war must stop soon?

Six years ago everyone (Republicans) were yelling "Bring it On". Now the same people are saying "Bring them Home". Why the change?

Why?
1) Bush lied: no WMD in Iraq
2) Bush lied: no connection to terrorists
3) Bush lided: no attempts by Saddam to buy uranium
4) 3500+ American troops dead for Bush's lies
5) Because our troops and teasure have been wasted in Iraq, al-Qaida has had 5 years to regain strength in Afghanistan
6) None of Bush's so-called "strategies" have worked in Iraq--and the surge isn't working either. |

At some point the Iraqis need to handle it themselves. There is no change except the bar which is constantly raising. |

Because the polls taken in their districts show that the people are against this war and they are going to lose their Congressional seats if they don't do something quick. |

Sometimes it takes people six years to realize what a terrible and hopeless situation we are in. You can't force democracy on anyone. |

Because elections are coming. |

Because they are growing restless of it. People's opinions at home are detiorating. The Iraqi government isn't stepping up either and their brains have come to realize everything is F'd up now. |

Don't you recall the biblical story about God, who promised that He would save Sodom and Gomorrha if even a few just men could be found there?. He finally decided that there was no one there worth saving, and he abandoned the area and let fire and brimstone rain on it. (At least that's the story.)
We have discovered the modern parallel to Sodom and Gomorrha. There are no just men there. They're all corrupt, they all strongly dislike Americans, and they won't do anything to help themselves. Four years ago, none of us, Republican or Democrat, were ready to believe that. Do you propose that President Bush was supposed to be smarter than God? And if so, what about the Clintons and everyone else who agreed that we should go to war?
Since Sunnis and Shia won't stop trying to destroy each other, and have been at it for over a thousand years, maybe it's time for us to pick up our marbles and go home. We have told them that, and we're going to do that in an orderly fashion, but no one is "jumping ship". |

Its simple everyone has their heads in the sand just hoping something good happens or the it will just go away. Both Dem. and Rep are doing this.Everyone is sick of the entire government,Dem made office because they told the public we will bring them home and in turn they don't do a damn thing.Because they don't want their public imaged destroyed because they voted NA or YA on the subject. The lobbies that got them in office by funding their campaign wants the hunk of the political cake to make their investment back. and that our senator are so afraid they will be judge for make a stand. They DONT have the balls to stand up for the Americana people want and bring our boys/gals home from this blood bath they call a helping a country. |

Because they are smart. Why are you talking down on someone who agrees with you? Remember Democrats were for the war at first too. They just opened their eyes a little sooner. |
|

Because there's a handful of them that want to play the Democrats' game, and think that by switching sides they'll gain more public favor and win votes--which is all the Democrats are doing, by the way. Six years ago most of those Democrats were also yelling, "Bring it on", or have you forgotten that? It all depends on if you want to vote for someone who switches sides at the drop of a hat just to pander to the uninformed masses, or whether you want a leader with guts who is willing to do what's right even if it means not everyone agrees, or even at the cost of his political career. |

They are getting the message that the public is sick and tired of seeing their constitution and national treasury being raped by that bunch of gluttonous pigs. And they are not going to take it any more. |

Because they have grown brains finally. I got out of this pro-war nonsense over two years ago when I realized we cannot make the Iraqis behave. |

1. The lies are being exposed for what they are. We were told that we were going into war to eliminate weapons of mass destruction, when the best intelligence said that those weapons did not exist. We were then told that we were rescuing a people from an evil dictator, when the truth was that these people have been decimating each other for centuries and the only time they paused was when someone scarier was in command. Now the various factions that were focused on surviving under the reign of Saddam Hussein are free to continue their ethnic cleansing of each other and we are not powerful or ruthless enough to even slow the4m down! The other little ugly truth is that the evil dictator used to do freelance work for the C. I. A., so in a sense we have once again created our own worst enemy. (Bin Laden is another example) We were then told that we were fighting terrorism in Iraq so we would not have to fight it here. In reality, we are focusing the rage of the terrorists and drawing attention to ourselves. We were told that we would be seen as liberators, when in reality we are seen as king makers and Empire builders. We were told that the war would pay for itself thanks to the huge oil reserves in Iraq and the surrounding regions, when in reality the only people getting rich are the multi-national oil companies and Haliburton. Cheney is the former CEO of Haliburton, (his shares are being held in a blind trust, but he continues to profit from the no bid contracts that this corporation magically lands) and the Bush family actually makes more money in oil than they do in the textbook business! (thriving thanks to no child left behind)
We were told that this was almost a holy war, certainly a decent war, and now the facts are coming to light that this is a war for profiteers and thugs. The lies about soldier's advertised as being victims of terrorism, but in reality being killed by friendly fire, are coming to light! The lies about Iraq being the greatest evil when it's neighbor Iran, actually has nuclear capability, (along with the atrocities in South Africa and Northern Korea) has come to light. The nasty little secret that we are committing atrocities in our own prisons and spiriting prisoners away to foreign countries where the rule of law can't quite reach, has come to the attention of the conservative Christians in the Bible Belt who were told that the leaders they elected into office were compassionate and fiscally frugal. The debts that our great great grandchildren will be saddled with are being tabulated, even as our Commender in Chief is asking for hundreds of Billions more.
The Republican party, which used to stand for less government, fiscally sound budgets, and a balanced budget, is now responsible for the most bloated, corrupt administration in our nation's history. "Of course, that's just my opinion. I could be wrong!" (I love quoting Dennis Miller when I put this stuff up. He still doesn't get it!) |

they can jump ship, but, they aren't going to get the compromise they want. Dems are going to push their agenda. the only reasons they are jumping ship is CYA. making a statement and saying, I BELIEVE. |

The American public knows that staying in Iraq isn't going to accomplish anything other than killing more of our soldiers.
Now that we're approaching 2008 and they're up for re-election, Republicans are finally bowing to the will of the American public. They've finally realized that they need to do their jobs or they'll be fired. |
