How come the majority of us were all for the 2nd war with iraq before it started?

but now we are all against it now?
why is that?
why cant we just support our troops and president, because the president only did what the majority of the united states wanted at the time.
its not his fault the people arent willing to stay and finish what they started

Because roughly 40% of my countrymen are weak minded and fickle. They can be swayed in thier opinions by a tv commercial or a well publicized poll that tells them they shiuld think differently. They are degenerates that wouldn't know a principle if they met one in their soup.

I have far more respect for anyone who was genuinely opposed to the war then and still is, than anyone who has altered their opinion when it seemed that this would be harder or take longer than they had preconcieved.

I was never for it. That country was under severe sanctions for years. They had two wars since we supplied them with WMD. If they had WMD, wouldn't they have used it against us when we attacked them? If he used it on his own people, why would he not have used it against Americans?

He didn't have anything to do with terrorists. Anybody would know that just from the way he ran his country. He would not have shared power or joined with terrorists or another country. It was all his. Nobody can tell me they didn't realize that before they attacked Iraq the 2nd time.

I suspect many people who "were all for" the war were like me, simply giving the president the benefit of the doubt. Don't get me wrong, I think we need to stay and fight now that we've gone in. Whether you think the information the administration used to sell us the war was lies, or just bad intelligence, you can't deny the war was SOLD to us.

To a great extent, I blame previous congresses and presidents for gutting Congress' constitutional right to declare war. Six years of "the war on terror" with no declaration of war. Does this make sense? Especially when Bush and Cheney want to claim all sorts of special powers to the president because we're at war. If Congress had ever actually declared war, maybe he'd have a point.

I was against it long before it started. I was against it when the architects of the war were planning it:
http://www.newamericancentury.org/iraqclintonletter.htm

The majority were for it because they believed the lies they were told, just as people have believed the lies of our government for decades:
http://www.commondreams.org/views06/0422-24.htm

They've since begin to discover the truth.

If i recall right, 86% of the population was in support of it.

But once we completed operation Iraqi freedom, everyone expected to find NBC sites. Even though we found 600 degraded Chemical warheads ( that never made the mainstream news) over the years- the war has been highly politicized to the point where

If you are left of the ideology- you are supposed to hate it.
If you are right of the ideology you are supposed to support it.

All this talk about Bush lieing is a bunch of crap, for God's sake most of NATO and even the Russians said Putin had WMD capabilities- or was trying to aquier them.

Even so, those reasons are just icing on the cake, Bush needed to fight radical islam- so he needed to make a example out of countries that encouraged that sort of behavior, that was ruled by either a single party, or one man dictatorship- and let the people of that country decide how they want to live.

because we dont like bush

because we were lied to about the reasons. once the truth came out, any thinking american turned against the war and the administration. no one can believe what this administration is saying, and those who chose to follow them blindly are part of the problem.

the population was charged up from 911 and after the WMDs weren't found. and other stuff came out like bush letting more than 100 of bin laden's family member fly out of the US on 912. us support started to decrease. now after the sobering images and stories of so many soldiers, brothers, sisters, mothers, sons daughters dying. many just want it to be over.

I was against it then and I'm against it now. Iran made a lot more sense to invade and occupy since we already had Iraq isolated and Iran has a population that knew what freedoms felt like. The were 'Westernized' if you will. The reasons for the invasion of Iraq smelled like retribution for GWB's dad instead of retaliation of 9/11 and the hunt for ObL, the taliban and Al Qaida

i can tell you i wasn't for it. i'm against war.

bmulek2000
Very good point!! I think it has alot to due with the media, The media told us that we should go and now, they say we should have never been there.

If you really think about it, This is the best war the USA has ever been in when it comes to casulites, 5 years, almost 4000 people. I'm not trying to justify anything here, I'm just putting it out there in other wars what happened in a day or two.

the last long war the US fought was the Vietnam War. Now the generation that fought or protested the war are the ones that usually oppose or support the war. I look at the generation of my grandfather who served on WWII and did the right thing. They were selfless and brave. My father's generation, are the opposite. While at first was specptical of the war I've come to realize that we are doing the right thing over there. Our generation is the one that is volunteering and winning the war in Iraq against a terrible monster. At the same time we must not appease our enemies in hopes that the would stop attacking us. These extremist want to eradicate us.They themselves are doing all they can to do this. That's why I joined the Army ROTC and will join the fray very soon. It's a long hard road out of hell but we can and will do it. God bless the soldiers, marines, sailors, aimens, and guad coastmen. All doing the job of getting back faith in winning not loosing

Well, Germany wanted nothing to do with this war. When was the last time Germany was on the right, or even winning side, in any war????

The President and his crew used false information to make the case at the UN and to the American people that there were weapons of mass destruction (WMDs) in Iraq and they were going to use it against us.

So let me ask you this, so almost five years after being in Iraq where are the WMDs?

THERE ARE NONE. Its been pretty clear.
The President continues to say there was a tie with Iraq and 9/11, even though the 9/11 Commission and every other single authority in the government says THERE WAS NOT.

JUST FYI I never believed there were WMDs and I never supported the War. It just didn't make any sense.

I support the men and women of the armed forces. Just because you don't support the war doesn't mean you don't support the troops.

Because the majority of us were for ousting Hussein and liberating the Iraqis. What we failed to realize, though, was the fact that Iraq would be either incapable or unwilling to take a stand and defend themselves. Now they want us to stay and do their dirty work and continue to drain our own economy doing it.

PS. - Regarding WMDs:

BILL CLINTON summed up the Iraq situation quite nicely back in 1998 when he said:

"Earlier today, I ordered America's armed forces to strike military and security targets in Iraq. They are joined by British forces. Their mission is to attack Iraq's nuclear, chemical and biological weapons programs and its military capacity to threaten its neighbors.

Their purpose is to protect the national interest of the United States, and indeed the interests of people throughout the Middle East and around the world.

Saddam Hussein must not be allowed to threaten his neighbors or the world with nuclear arms, poison gas or biological weapons."
