Everyone has been through this every day since the coalition troops went into Baghdad. I look forward to the day when everyone will get as bored with mudslinging like they did supporting the military's chosen profession.

We have not attacked Iraq. We are attacking the terrorist organizations that are considered dangerous to us and also to the Iraqi people. 9-11 was an event that showed us what people are capable of, and for some reason, we waited untill after the fact to fight these terrorist organizations. The other answer is right. There havent been anymore attacks on US soil. This means that we are doing our job. Why is it that Liberals dont find helping other countries establish a democracy appealing. I thought that that was the definition of liberal. I guess it is just another way to try to get elected.

No, Iraq wasn't linked directly to 9/11 and the attack on US soil. However, al qaeda is. Al qaeda was and still is in Iraq. Clinton knew this. However, he did nothing about it then, like when the WTC was attacked the first time. Now Bush is taking a stand and doing what he has to do to ensure that it doesn't happen again. Suddam was a terrorist to his own people. We've given them freedom. We've also captured many people associated with and in power within al qaeda. We're not importing oil from Iraq. However, they are starting to produce oil again, so they're another step closer to being economically stable. Since we've been in Iraq, there have been NO more attacks on American soil. That alone speaks for the job we're doing breaking down terrorist groups.

here's an opinion of mine, and it's a serious attempt to answer the question, unlike some of the attempts i have read. I'm no political analyst, or military strategist, i'm just a person. But it would seem to me that Iraq "was" the most powerful nation the middle east. I recall it being like the fifth most powerful military in the world back in the early 90's prior to desert shield/desert storm. So my thinking is that, you take out the biggest dude when you get in a fight. Now Iraq may not have been the brains in the area, but it surely was the brawn. So by taking out iraq, you take out the legs of a person.
Then you give people in the area something they've never really had before. Freedom. Freedom from a dictator who if spoken against would have your tongue cut out literally, arms chopped off literally, body beaten by multiple men with batons literally, families executed literally. So imagine all the people who talk their trash against bush. now imagine bush was saddam and you were living in iraq. my friends you'd be dead for just speaking your mind. so you give these people freedom. They taste it, they savor it, they like it. Yes it's hard work to be free. When enslaved you're told what to do, when to do it, how to do it etc and that's easy cuz you don't have to think for yourself, but once free you have to think for yourself. But with effort and time, these people will not want these new found freedoms relinquished. Do you honestly believe that if some group of people came to the U.S.A and were going to try and punk us down to give away our freedom that we would let them? I've lived as free as this nation would allow me, i love what i have, and wouldn't want to trade it for some other nation's idea of freedom.
So these people become free, they learn to govern themselves, learn to be independent of a dictator. Other people from other nations in the area, who currently live under a dictatorship or very corrupt government, likes the freedom that they see the iraqis have, they either become immigrants to Iraq one day, or, maybe just maybe, a group of brave individuals stand up to the tyranny, and they'll sacrifice themselves for freedom just as eagerly as the terrorist sacrifice themselves for their ideology.
It's a good plan i think, because, it's not just an attack on the physical location of a country, but it's an attack on the minds of people. A renewing of the thinking of the individuals who've lived in fear. And this is important because, we all do or act out that which we truly, truly believe and desire in our hearts. And by changing the enslaved fearfulled hearts of a people, the actions will soon change too and they'll win the war for us

911 was never cited as a reason to invade Iraq, saying it over and over doesn't make it true.
Iraq was in defiance of 17 UN resolutions.
Iraq sponsored terrorism - Hussein offered 25,000 to families of suicide bombers.
Iraq has manufactured and used Chemical weapons (WMDs)
WMDs were found in Iraq. Again saying Bush lied over and over does not make it true.
Congress saw the same intelligence as Mr. Bush and agreed with taking action. No matter how many time Kerry, Clinton and others try to rewrite history their statements before the war are a matter of public record, and illustrate their hypocrisy for all to see.
Saddam Hussein was a cruel despot who needed to be removed from power.
Iraq is not Vietnam. The motivations are not the same. The prosecution of the war is not the same. The death tolls are definitely not the same. Trying to compare the two is like comparing apples and oranges, they are both fruits but that is where the similarity ends. I find it amusing that the antiwar set seizes on this as their glory days, and are trying hard to relive it. Even though the strategy is failing miserably.
Lastly things are improving in Iraq. There is a democratically elected government in place, and troops are being trained to take control of the country's security and defense. Another province was turned over to Iraqi control this very morning.

Think oil. For everything about middle east policy including Israel over the past century think oil. The only other points of interest in the whole area including North africa is the Suez Canal, the Bosphorus and shipping routes.

I feel sorry for ruth and others just as blind. The "planes flying into our buildings" was engineered by the Bush administration to give Bush a reason to attack Iraq. Why haven't we attacked Korea? Becuase they have no oil. Have you seen the video of Bush being told about the 911 attack? Did he look surprised to you. He's an idiot. I can't see how he got re-elected other than the fact that our country must me a majority of idiots.
