How did pirates in the past get away with hijacking ships and getting away with the millions paid in ransom?

I understand that in the past

1. they hijack ships
2. they get paid millions....

my question is...how in the WORLD did they just get AWAY with the money? instead of being BLOWN AWAY TO PIECES?????? we can put a man on the moon but we can't track them down as they're getting away with the money and blown them up?

yeah but after the initial transfer of the ransom......you see them get the money and you see them get away......theres a good distance from there to them getting back ashore.....

you can't tell their boats from local fishing boats and they are very popular in somalia because they bring money

so sink the ship or kill the crew and the pirates?

I think insurance companies wouldn't go for that. the pirates are smart enough not to charge too much...
