How did those snipers feel after killing those pirates?

Or I should say, how do you think they felt?
I think they felt horrible, what about you? Additional Details they must have felt something, you just don't kill somebody without feelings. :)
because as you know, the only people that are like that are mass murderers. :)

The recoil of the rifle. That's it. Period.
edit: They were targeting terrorist and Somali terrorist at that. Remember the Battle of Mogadishu? I'm sure they felt proud at scoring one for their Special Ops brethren lost in that battle. I'm sure there was a sense of pride that their plan worked and that they freed an American hostage from a band of thugs. You don't understand the military at all. We are a professional team who work our entire careers for the "big game"; this was their "big game" and they won.
edit #2: Active Special Forces operators do not talk about their missions or their personal lives. They are not fighter jocks. They are the "quiet professionals" for a reason. This is not the f*cking superbowl we are talking about. If they had it their way no one would have heard about this. |

I think some people are nothing more than a virus on society and need to be put down.
I'm sure they seen these men the same way.
I also don't like what the question implies, that there is something wrong with defending yourself, your country.
To me it is an attempt at sabotage, weakening morale of our service men and women.
Are you one of the pirates? |

In the Army we live by the solder's creed. I am pretty sure that the Navy has a creed similar to ours.
My favorite line:
I stand ready to deploy, engage and DESTROY the enemies of the Unitied States of America in close combat.
I am a guardian of freedom and the American way of life.
I am an AMerican Solider. |

You should be lucky you have a country to protect you like that. If you are comparing the US military to mass murderers, then you need to do some research. Think about it. You should be proud. They probably don't feel good, but they do it to protect you. |

I'm sorry, guy. I think this question is inappropriate. Those who know won't be inclined to talk about it. Those that have absolutely no idea will expound ad infinitum.
It's not unlike some drunk at a party finding out what you do and asking, "Hey, Rambo. How many people did you kill today?" |

Nothing because it is already programmed into their brains to identify enemies and subdue them. Either you let the better guys do their work or you let the enemies have the upper hand. |

The last time I answered a question on this same topic, I was reported for being abusive by a bleeding heart liberal. So I will try to control myself.
I agree 100% with Army Chemo.
The seals did what they are trained to do and probably got a lot of satisfaction doing it. Pay back time.
Who cares about what the terrorists felt. Why do some people think that these terrorists have human-rights ? Its really beyond me. What about the rights of those that were held captive ?
It is a shame as your country's military deserves better. What about their rights ? |

They did their job. |

I doubt they would personally want it to come to that, having to shoot another human being; but in this case, the pirates were forfeiting their lives by holding another human being hostage--at gunpoint--for ransom. The people who pay these ransoms only encourage the pirates to continue their activities; if piracy weren't such a highly-lucrative business, they wouldn't be doing it. The government of Somalia is basically non-existent and it's unfortunately up to the governments and militaries of other countries, whose ships are passing through those dangerous areas off of Somalia's huge coastline, to protect their assets. The snipers did their job, and their job was necessary to protect and rescue the Maersk captain from those thugs. |

I know I would have been proud to kill those guys. Even my grandmother asked if I could shoot someone, then she added, "Because I would gladly shoot those people." |

Uh, they didn't murder them. They ended a threat.
As to what they felt: recoil.
I have the privilege of knowing a Marine Scout/Sniper- he said the same (NO I did not ask him, I would never ask a warrior about this stuff), "Recoil."
Very few people can do what he/they do without snapping, it takes a very strong will to be able to go through that. |

I think that those SEALs have trained for that kind of mission so often that they were prepared to do what was necessary to complete the mission. Does that mean that those men felt nothing? I think not. I think that they have accepted their role and are not adverse to the consequences. One just has to be ready to take a life when one volunteers for such elite units. |

I highly doubt they cared at all. The sniper is a job that you have to dedicate every thing you have ever had to, and even though only about 10% is being a surgeon with bullets, when you kill, you do it right the first time. It is what a lot of the training is for. They didn't spend countless days out on the shooting range and doing mock war missions to feel horrible about the other person's life they took. They knew what came with the job. |
