How do I go from Active Duty Air Force to being a reservist if my enlistment is not done yet?

I am in the Air Force for a six Year term. September will be three years for me. I no longer want to be active duty. Is it possible for me to become a reservist instead?

What you need to do is find a national guard recruiter. They will start a conditional release and probably email or scan it to you. Then you take it to your chain of command and it goes up the command. If they feel like they can lose you or plain just don't care then they'll sign off on it and you'll be free. Its not a complicated process but it can take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months and thats if they want to release you. It usually helps if you have a good reason such as I want to go to college or one of my relatives is sick (thats the excuse that got me out of the army). Anyway, I wish you good luck but honestly why leave active duty? I want to do the exact opposite and go active on the air force side of the house. |

It is possible in some specific instances.
Basicly you have to be in an AFSC that is non critical and is over manned. |

Omally is absolutely correct. Go to the separations office at your nearest MPE (used to be MPF) and get Palace Chase package.
One caveat: You have to spend 3X the length of your remaining enlistment in the Reserves/Guard, ie if you had one year left, then you would have to do three in the Reserves or Guard. |
