How do I join the TA? I keep ringing up but no one answers... (easy 10 pointer)?

I would find out what night they train and do exactly that! Alternatively you can go to your local Army Careers Office and apply there since April 07 they are obliged to recruit for the TA under the "One Army" recruiting process, they will conduct a "hand off" with 6 rifles and arrange a time for you to go there.

Alternatively why don't you just enlist and join 1 Rifles from the outset?

Joining the Territorial Army
The Territorial Army (TA) forms one quarter of the British Army and trains people from all walks of life to be soldiers in their spare time. Here's how you can join:

Step 1: decide your unit
Will you be joining a Local TA or National Unit? This will be decided by whether you have a specialist skill, such as engineering that is in demand by the Army.

Step 2: visit your unit
Contact your relevant Unit and arrange a time to meet TA members and find out first hand if TA life is for you. If you want to join a National Unit, your first visit may coincide with an initial interview.

Step 3: attend an interview
This will be an informal discussion where you can expect to be asked about your fitness levels and medical history as well as have your own questions answered by our Permanent Staff Administration Officer (PSAO).

Step 4: start your TA training
If your application is successful, you won't have to wait long to join up. For Local TA Units, you will be invited to attend our monthly Recruit Initial Selection Course (RISC). If you like it, and the TA likes you, you will begin your Basic Recruit Training. If you are successful at your National Unit interview, you will be asked to participate in two weekend's initial training followed by a fortnight's Basic Recruit Training at a later date.

Contract and Commitment
You can adapt your life in the TA to the level of experience you have and the amount of time you can give. For all entrants, the minimum period of service is three years. You can leave at any time after this or extend your service for one, two, three or four years at the time. The annual training commitment ranges from 19 days in national units to 27 days in independent units including a two-week annual camp.

if there anything like the fire brigade they only train one night a week so find out which night they train and ring the local unit that night
turning up unannounced is not a good idea
