I'm thinking about creating a company that includes contracting and military research developement(like DARPA).

No, you don't need a military background. That's what the mercs are for.

You need good business skills with contract experience, you also need a good amount of financial backing.
The insurance alone will cost a small fortune. Let alone the equipment - armoured cars about $180k each, Weapons, variable price, body armour between $250 and $500 per set, Radios - HF, Satellite phones, transponders.
Staff, 1 security contractor at about $500 a day plus flights, plus food and accommodation.
You also need accreditation from the government of the country you are in - Iraq was $18000 per company, not sure now though
Once you have accreditation, enough equipment and staff you can start to bid on contracts, you may even win one if you can do it cheaper than the other 40 companies bidding!
just one valid point. Seeing as you refer to security contractors as mercenaries, I suggest you don't know enough about the security business to make a success of it |

You should probably have a military background. You probably will need to be pretty bad ***. And you are going to need a lot of dough. Erik Prince of Black Water used his inheritance to set up his PMC.

Plain and simple. Find connections within the PMC industry, and work from their. Believe it or not, you can start off with a min of $9k if you know what your doing, and you have the right connections. The most important thing is DONT BE AFRAID TO GET YOUR HANDS A LITTLE DIRTY.
