How do Somali pirates board ships?

I mean, arent these pirates in little motorized dingys that are maybe 10-20 feet shorter than the boat they are trying to board? is there a law that says you must let anyone board your ship?

are the people on these ships not allowed to carry arms? arent they in intl. waters???

How is it that you figure a small boat should have a harder time boarding a larger boat?
That their boat is smaller... probably means they're more maneuverable and maybe even faster... meaning it's easier to board.

When the deck of the vessel is only 15 feet or so above the water a short rope with a grappling hook will do the trick.

The pirates are armed with automatic rifles and mortar launchers. Most cargo crews are not armed.

The Pirates pull up along side and yell "Hey, do you have a cup of sugar we could borrow?"

The crews are baffled if they don't speak English, or if they do speak English, while they are heading to the kitchen the Pirates climb on bored and yell "Tricked you!!!!!"

You would be surprised how often this works.
