Get a BS, get an MS, get a commission. Spend about 15 - 20 years in the USN...and have the rank of CDR or CAPT. Have knowledge of ALL functions of a submarine. Be able to get the absolute highest level security clearance.

Get a commission in the Navy. Get accepted in the submarine service. Be a TOP performer. Hope a boat becomes available for you before you retire.

Talk about a steep pyramid!

The Naval Academy would be an excellent start.

Work your way up

Go to the Naval Academy (if you're not already out of high school).

If you already graduated college, go to Officer Candidate School.

Put in the time.

Spend about 15 years as an officer in the Navy and then you might have a chance.

Buy a submarine and start calling everyone skipper. They'll call you Cap'n in no time

Lets work through this backwards.

To be a sub CO, you must have been a sub XO. Now there is a requirement to have been an Eng. but you also must have been a forward Department Head.

So before being XO, you must either be a WEPs or NAV.

So lets say you spend a tour as a WEPs or NAV, before this you must have been a ENG.

To be an ENG you had to have completed a tour as RC Div O.

RC Div O was once either a either E Div O, or M Div O.

To do that you must have completed Nuc Officer school.

To do that you need a B.S. in Physics or in Engineering.

So really your career path would be:
1. College and get a B.S. in Physics or Engineering.
2. Then OCS,
3. Then Nuc school,
4. Then E Div O, or M Div O.
5. Then RC Div O.
6. Then ENG
7. Then NAV or WEPs,
8, Then XO,
9. Then CO

From each of the subs that I have served on only maybe half of the COs were academy grads.

Join the navy and work your way up in the ranks.

wiseornotyoudecide
you need at a minimum a Nuclear Engineering Degree, and the rest you need to inquire directly to the Navy.

joining the Navy seems like the first step.
then, apply for sub duty, work your way up.

unless you would be satisfied to be a sub commander in the 8th largest sub fleet in the world.

Buy one of the little plastic submersibles from Wal-Mart and take it with you to the bath tub.

Well Now What
Get a real neat looking Sailor suit
.
And captain's hat
.
That captain Nemo wore
.
And learn how to talk like a Sailor
.
And when you become a big boy you can go down town and join the
Navy
.
And not Old Navy clothing store either
.
The real Navy is where they will tell you how to become one

just do your research and get into that branch of the field that you choose or want to get into. I'm guessing most of the people in your arena are all on the super confident angle. that's probably where the fuel is coming from. a nascent mind is normally affected by the common thought of high ambition and doing it big. but the main thing is, as long as you are in the field that is the one you want to be in, then at that point you just work your way up.

Join the navy, and stay enlisted for a few years. They will promote you after a while. And you get to choose what kind of boat you want to serve on I believe. Im not sure. But if you told your recruiter that you were interested in subs, he'd try to put you on one.

good luck. if i went into the military, i would go into the navy!
