How do you find out if you are eligible to draw and ex husbands military pension after he passes away?

married 13 years with 2 grown children...just trying to find out where to go to find out if I am eligible

just for everyones opinion,I have 2 sons that I thought would receive it. I do work and am proud that he was military.....He was a very good person that just happened to be married to a bad person at the time of his death and I wanted to know if there was anyway because it would definitely help his son that has been out of work do to being ill.

Check with the casualty affairs office at nearest base to you. Doesn't matter what branch. An Air Force base will find you an Army POC etc.

Like Mrs. JVB said he would have had to pay for the SBP (Survivor Benefit Plan) and named you as a beneficiary. Some people still care about the former spouse and choose this option.

Not absolutely sure but I believe if you were eligible you would have been receiving part of his pension all along.

Sorry. Only the lawfully married widow can receive part of a deceased military member's pension. And that is only if he participated in the Survivor Benefits' Program and paid the monthly premium.

you most likely are NOT eligible.. for one it had to be part of the divorce decree and two, he had to select reduced pension while he was alive and opt for Survivor benefit Plan in order for said payments to continue after his death.

AFI 36-3006, para 3.4.2 discusses the selection of former spouses as beneficiaries. It does not have to be the member's current spouse, as another poster suggested.

Wow you should be ashamed of yourself. How do you walk with your head up. You got divorced, he is deceased, you get nothing...which is great because you sure don't deserve anything. Get a second job and stop trying to rip a man who made an honorable service to his country
