How does my husband get child support removed off of his retirement check?

His youngest has just turned 18, and so now that he has a retiremtn check and his ex. garnishes this for child support, how do we stop this now that his youngest has turned 18?

Retired military? He needs to go to: https://mypay.dfas.mil.
Well, I just checked via the above way, and you can't change allotments like that. He has to call 800-321-1080 and talk to a customer service rep (they are AMERICANS! In London, Kentucky). They will be able to assist him.
Hopefully the checks have not been cashed since the 'child' has turned 18...that is fraud.
He CAN check his pay by going to the above website.

Child support doesn't automatically end at 18. It depends on several factors: the laws regulating child support in the state in which the divorce took place, if the 18 year old child is still in high school, any agreement to pay child support past 18. |

If he owes any back child support it will continue to be deducted from his check otherwise it will stop in about a month. The state will let you know.* |

If he still owes anything from previous years, he can not stop the allotment until that is paid off. If all things are current and he has a written order for support that states it terminates at 18, all he needs to do is contact finance and they should be able to stop it. If he does not have this set up as a part of his support agreement from the court (they did not include a termination age or guidelines) or this has been an informal arrangement with his ex, he should either contact the family courts in the state the order comes from or be sure to get a signed, written statement from his ex agreeing that he has fufilled his responsibilities and that the support arrangement is now terminated. Until he is sure that he has fufilled his end of the agreement according to the legal arrangement as well as the state requirements and/or he has a written statement supporting this, he should not stop the payments...or at the very least, keep the money in an account until he is sure. |

The Department of Human Services is who arranges payments for child support. Contact them and give them this information. (That department may have a somewhat different name wherever you live.) Then, they will contact whoever pays your pension and notify them to stop the child support payments. That is, assuming that no back support is still owed. |
