was just wondering how, say a first class private (entry level i guess) would get paid if he was in Afghanistan compared to if he was based at home. i guess first not including any benefits and second with a sample of two or three such as their rent, food or insurance I don't know what benefits they have.
its just that i saw a show where the soldiers where 'volunteering' for the burning of the crap from the toilets and received an extra 5 quid a day for the pleasure.. they couldn't be getting that much if this is worthwhile, could they?

I'm not sure how the pay works, I'm assuming it goes straight into your account.
You'll get about £16k a year and you normally have a 6 month tour, so when you return from afghanistan you'll get about £6k, then you get your tax returned and I believe you also get an extra £7 a day for while you're out there (which is another grand). I saw that the toilet thing they only got an extra £1 a day, so I'm not sure what that's about. I think that's just something to do - when there is nothing around to do, and getting paid for it - so it's not too shabby....
