How fast can you start in the military?

If you need emergency employment, can you join the military and be on the next bus to boot camp in the same day? I know you wouldn't get paid until you have worked for a month, like most jobs, but I want to know if you can join and thus be employed instantly.
Additional Details
To the 2nd answerer, if so is the case, a month is too long and I will drop the idea. I need this as an option because I only have 24 hours in my pharmacy job, and am stuck living with my mom, and she gives me hell every day.

i wish it were as fast as some of the other answerers make it sound. right now for the ARMY the soonest i could get you shipped out would be august. training seats are filling faster than they can slot them. a year ago you couldve been outta dodge in a matter of weeks. |

You will have to do a few things first before you get on the bus. Talking to a recruiter to find out if you qualify to join the military. Then there's the ASVAB test you have to take to see what you are qualified to do. This usually takes about a week or two. After all that is done and you have picked a job and you get the green light, all that's left is the medical exam, raise your hand, and you're in the military. |

With a screen name of "Perfectly Baked," it will take at least 30 days for the weed to clear out of your system.
Then you can start the process.

I apologize. You have to understand how I could make that jump, though.
It will take at least a month to actually start training. Back in the "good old days" (6 months ago) you might have left a week after signing your contract, but those days are gone.

You cant just walk up and hop on the bus from meps to the airport to your training center. First thing is they have to make sure your IQ is higher then rock...so far your on the bubble. You take pre tests and the recruiting center...THEN you go take your ASVAB,This will determine what job you qualify for. Then you can wait up to 1 year before you go (Its called the DEP Delayed ENTRY PROGRAM. You will go to MEPS and talk to recruiters,have physicals,eye and ear test and and about 1000 questions thrown at you from 20 people at a time. Oh and in the military you don't get "employed"...you get "Deployed" Now i have retired years ago but i have a photographic memory and remember all of my training from 15NOV85. Including the weapons serial number of my M-16 A-2
49er69er49er4. The jar heads do a backroom swear in but its just a way they can keep you in w/out changing your mind. Its kinda lame but alot of people back down after they sign in and then they go ARMY. I did home town recruiting,I know how the other branches like to tell lil lies to the noobs. SOOO in other words,there is no emergency employment ??? DEPLOYMENT.

No, you have to go through MEPS to make sure you are squared away I believe. Plus a ton of paperwork. You could probably ship within a month though. |

Man, just go to a recruiter, ANY military recruiter and tell them this! You will make someones day lol. Seriously, they will work something out provided you can PASS all the background checks and a physical.You still wouldn't ship right away. It takes time. What's the rush anyway? This is a serious commitment.
If you actually hustle, you can float a temp job until you ship in a few weeks. If it takes too long for you to wait, then forgot the military. So talk to a recruiter first before coming here.

You get paid as soon as you get to basic training. If you went to a recruiter and said I want to sign up today, then he will take you that day or the next to take the ASVAB. Then, within the next couple days take you to get the pyshical done. Then you will be taken to sign the contract. All of that will take around 5 days or so if done fast. The thing is you will have to wait for there to be an opening at basic training and depending on what job you sign up for that can take months. You will have to ask the recruiter which job will get me sent to basic fastest. |

I have been in the army for 4 years almost 5. When I got in the whole process took 6 days. Just tell them that is what you want to do they will push you out if that is what you want |
