I'm a 23 year old female and I just graduated in June 2008 with a degree in History from UCLA. My overall GPA was a 2.7, but I was working while going to school. I am currently an Assistant Manager at a retail store, but have a big interest in joining the armed forces. I have just started doing some research and being an Officer in the Air Force has me very interested. My question is how good are my chances of getting a position? My plan was to go speak with a recruiter this week, but I wanted to see if anyone on here could offer me any information. Also, would my chances be better with the Marines or Army? Thanks!

Your chances to become an air force officer are very good, however, a 2.7 GPA is not usually considered a competitive range GPA for OTS for a history major coming from most universities. If you want to be an air force officer, you will have a much better chance of commissioning by going back to school at a university with an afrotc detachment or with cross town arrangements with a university with an afrotc detachment and earning another bachelor's degree or a graduate or professional degree and commissioning through the two year afrotc course.
Better chances with Marines OCC. Best chance with Army OCS. However with Army OCS, a candidate enlists with an OCS option. First goes to BCT( Basic Combat Training) Then directly proceed to OCS. If OCS is not completed, then a military obligation is still owed to the army. With Marines OCC, if a candidate does not complete the course or does complete the course and decides not to accept a commission, there is no further military obligation.

Well, young lady, if you already have a degree, then I would say your chances would be good in any branch. However, you would best be in the Air Force or in the Navy. Both have great programs for women, and unless you want combat boots and on the ground, I would recommend them first. Air Force I believe has the most positions available for women |

Yes try army ocs. You will have no problems plus the army isnt cutting people anytime soon the way the air force is. The air force is hard to get into and to stay in. |

Truthfully, you have zero chance of being accepted to Air Force OTS with a 2.7 GPA.
That's barely a C+ average.
You would even have trouble getting accepted into Army OCS with a 2.7 GPA. |
