How harsh is the training in the National Guard?

It's rigirous.... until the weekend is over. Then you only have 5 days to rest up for another grueling 2 days.

National Guard basic training is exactly the same as regular Army and Army reserve. In fact, guard, reserve, and regular go through together. Your basic training platoon will have all 3 elements all mixed together.

Basic Training and AIT is the same for National Guardsmen and Regular Army. Where the training differs is back at the armory.

members who join the army or air national guard go through the exact same training as members who are either active or reserve. They attend the same BCT and the same advanced training. The difference is only in focus. National Guard members also have to focus on state matters and emergencies in additon to national matters, i.e. iraq and OEF.

It's not so bad except for those drills when they make you unload the keg -- those things are HEAVY.

But keep in shape. Your three summer drills will require you to mow the grass BEFORE you can drink any beer or eat any BBQ. Those lifer NCOs are just #$%^ing sadistic.

Seriously, it is pretty mellow. They are not trying to chase you away and weed out the misfits like the active Army does. Rather, they are trying to keep you proficient in case the #$% really does hit the fan and they need troops that can be up to speed quickly.

If you have been active, you will find that NG training resembles the S-1 section on Thursday mornings.

I am packing for next weeks 2 week summer, I am expecting to work 10 hours a day, and I plan on taking EZ chairs and lots of grub, BUT we do take advantage of our training time during AT but for the most part it is pretty chill.

You'll probably think it's the toughest training out there. Good luck...

All soldiers go through the same basic trainings and and AIT's but the training youll get at you unit in the guard is worthless

I'm not personally in the guard, but have friends who are. They say the basic training is awful. But then again, one came back weighing a lot more than she did before she left, so i'm guessing you eat well there if nothing else. HA.
