The VA has a pretty good program. The challenge is accessing services. Sometimes the good folks at the American Legion or the VFW will help vets with the application process. |

You can deal with it by using the numerous resources the government and army can provide people with post traumatic stress disorders. There is a lot of help people in this situation can receive.
I am from Ft. Campbell, Kentucky and have seen many people coming back from this war worse than when they went in. But there is PLENTY of help one can get; one just needs to make the effort. I can tell you I am a credible source to this info because my father, who is a Lt. Colonel and a doctor, is currently stationed in Afghanistan and is in charge of researching and trying to prevent the increased mental disorders and suicide from this war. Best of luck |

I've been going to therapy and taking various meds for 5 years. It doesn't fix it but it helps dull the symptoms some. |

Medications and therapy. If you are in desperate need of help, call 911 and tell them it is a Psychiatric Emergency or dial 1-800-273-TALK (8255) and press 1 to connect to VA suicide prevention and mental health service professionals. If you can make it to the VA Hospital, go to the ER and tell them you want to see the Psychiatric Emergency Services on-call doctor. Don't f*ck around and wait thirty years and two or more marriages like some of us.
Remember this, it may take a while to find the right amount and combinations of meds so don't just give up and try to fake your way though life. Keep working with your doctors and clinicians.

TALK WITH A COUNSELOR OR THERAPIST. AND MAKE SURE YOUR ALWAYS COMMUNICATION GETTING THINGS OFF YOUR SHOULDERS. SOME PEOPLE MAY NEED MEDICATION SOME MAY NOT. SO DONT BELIEVE IN THAT STUFF UNTIL YOU, YOURSELF FEEL YOU MIGHT NEED MEDICATION. DONT LET ANYONE SCREW YOU UP. |
