How is Navy Hospital Corpsman?

Length? Where? What all do i learn? And will i use weapons or carry one in the fleet? Will i learn combat techniques since i wanna go FMF?

After bootcamp in Great Lakes , Illinois, you will attend Corps school (right across the street from bootcamp) for around 4 months. You will learn basic EMT, basic life support, IV's, shots, handling patients, Triage,Patient assessment, bleeding and shock, stand watches and much more.
Corpsman with the Marines carry a 9mm.
You will learn Marine Martial Arts after A school at FMTB at either Camp Pendleton, CA, or Camp Lejeune (sp), NC. FMTB is the program to teach you Field medical training and to learn to be with the Marines. |

if you do not already have a contract, you will be hard pressed to get one.
A school is 14 weeks long at Great Lakes. you may or may NOT be sent to FMSS afterward.
A school is the basics. FMSS is combat medicine. you will learn enough to defend yourself and your patients but you will NOT be as well trained as the marines you will be supporting.
you will only carry a weapon if a Greenside Field Doc. and then only when necessary(like on patrol) |

If this is what you want , go for it. It is a great rating and our brothers and sisters in the United States Marine Corps really like a good "Doc".Don't worry, once " Gunny" and those other great Marines get done with your training, you will be just as good as those fellow Marines that may one day need you to save their life. Remember, a Combat Doc is a Medic/Soldier. |
