Housing will depend on the base he is stationed at because some bases do have waits that can be up to 1 year, while other ones it is immediately. If you do go into housing & housing is PPV then you will have to pay for the prorated amount for that month out of pocket. In housing they receive the rent at the end of the month for that month.
For BAH it can take up to 45 days after the information is entered into DEERS for it to be paid, it will be backdated to the date you got married. You can look in the area for places that you can find which are less than what he is getting for BAH including utilities. |

Housing allowance 4-6 weeks IF all the paper work is handed in quickly to be processed. It really falls on the Marines shoulders. The member will need to take a certified copy (court house can take a bit to get it to you) of your marriage license, the spouses SS card and birth certificate in to have the spouse put in DEERS. Depending on when all that is done is when you would get BAH or be eligible for housing. It can take up to 2 pay periods to see the BAH but would be back payed. Now on-base housing is tricky to answer. It depends on where it is, what rank and how many bedrooms. But pretty much expect to just live off-base. |

Well, if you are a junior Marine grades E-1, E-2, you probably don't know.
You don't "get" on base housing just because you get married. There are not enough houses on base for everyone.
There are 3 separate housing lists.
Junior Enlisted
NCOs
Officers.
A certain number of base housings units are assigned to each group.
You CAN register for on base housing the day you get married. You will be placed on the waiting list and your position may change (go up or down) depending the movements of people on the base.
You may "NEVER" get to come on base housing during your tour.
You will have to resort to renting off base for starters. You can learn about what private rentals are available off-base when you go to sign up at the base housing office.
Save up about $2,000 for rental deposits and first month's rent.
