How long does it take to enlist in the navy?

After you pass the ASVAB how long is it until you sign the papers and are officially enlisted? Also, how long is it until basic?

Well, I took the ASVAB on 04/22/2009 and finished it around 6 p.m. By 6 p.m. the next day, I was officially in the Navy, albeit inactive reserves. I don't leave for basic until 02/03/2010 though.

This really depends on ALLOT of factors.

Do you need any waivers?
When you go to MEPS
What your rating (job) is
Etc.

No one could tell you this except your recruiter.

It could be months, or it could be hours. Every situation is different. You need to sit down with your recruiter and discuss your individual situation. I went to MEPS, went through the whole process, and shipped out the next morning. I also know some guys who waited nearly a year in the DEP Delayed Entry Program) before going to boot.

6-9 months average right now. you do not officially enlist until the day you ship out and take your final oath.

I went to MEPS on a Saturday, they did all the processing that day. Ran around stations getting things checked out -- ears/eyes/duck walk/etc.
Then I sat in a room. They called me into an office with an enlistment paper in front of me. I signed it. Then I picked my ship-off date. That part, especially nowadays, can be some time away ... For some, back in 2000, it was a couple weeks.

I went through that process last November. I took the asvab on a Tuesday afternoon passed it slept over the hotel and then the next morning I had the physical, eye test, hearing test, blood work. Then I waited a long time . I met with a counselor and picked my rate then went and singed more papers. Then got finger printed and then swore in. But if you get waivers things could take longer.

But since everybody wants to join things could take longer. You really aren't in until you swear in the 2nd time. The first time you swear in that for DEP. With the way things are going its taking months for people to leave. Good luck and I hope you get in.
