How long does it usually take to become a Army Ranger if your an officer?

I know you have to be at least a 1st lieutenant but, does it usually take longer to get into R.O.P

I would assume it takes much longer, than enlisting.
because one, you have to achieve the rank of 1st Lt. and Second, you have to have done airborne training, and be selected for R.O.P.
unlike how you can get airborne and RIP in your contract when you enlist, getting those as an officer, take more time, and is not guaranteed. |

You have to be a 1st Lt (promotable)
You have to have already been to Ranger School
You have to be recommended by your Brigade Commander ( they are not gonna do that unless your sharp, they aren't gonna want to ruin thier name, but recommending anyone they don't think is the best )
You have to go before a Ranger Board and be selected
Then you go to ROP.
A minimum of 3 years in the Army.
Basicly you would have to be the best 1st Lt in your Division.
And you have any idea just how many 1st Lt's there are in a division ? |

If your are accepted into rop, you will know in under a year. If you are passed up, you may get in later on. You have to complete ranger school, be an expert marksman and be a total PT monster to be considered for ROP, though. That being said, west point grads who went to Ranger school in before their 4th year have the upper hand. Still, there are no guarantees. It is highly selective. |
