How long of a deployment should I expect?

My husband is currently at A School training to be a CM Sea-bee, and I am wondering, if he gets deployed to Afghanistan or somewhere like that, how long should I expect him to be gone? I know it varies but any ideas what kind of nerve racking separation I should expect? I know he is going to be well trained and everything and that they normally work on bases and stuff, but any insights would be greatly appreciated.

He can be gone for a couple of weeks, a few months or over 6 months, it will depend on where they are going and what they are doing. He can go to places like Afghanistan, Iraq, Kuwait, Djibouti, or he can even be overseas in SE Asia, Guam, etc... it will really vary on the job they are doing. They do work at the base itself when home, but sometimes they can be called out to do emergency work after a disaster, they can build just about anything and anywhere. You are limited honestly to what bases he can be stationed at. you can be there living in base housing or renting out in town. you will have some contact through emails and phone calls with him. There is usually a Family Readiness Group with each command that does give information. You should look at doing the Spouse 101 or Compass through the Fleet & Family Support Center when you get there.

don't listen to fart.. he is just talking.... depends if they need him in afgan. alot of navy seebees are not in iraq or afgan.. usally in italy,greece all the fun places is at. good luck..

SeaBees do an average 6 month deployment every 18 months or so. this is NOT set in stone, he could be gone a lot more than that..or a lot less.

and he will deploy to a lot more places than Afghanistan.. SeaBees go to MANY third worlds nations or nations that have been hard hit by natural disasters.

Right now the average deployment cycle for Navy and Marines is 12 months. If you are ready for that you will be good. Definitely get skype before he goes as you will more than likely have the opportunity to video chat.

It would be nice to get which branch he is. If it is army expect 12 months. I don't know about the other branches.
