Enlisted cannot go any higher than E-9, unless they go Warrant Officers School. To become an officer, you must be commissioned, which requires OCS, NROTC, or the Naval Academy. Enlisted can do this after a certain number of years in the service, but must have a college degree with the exception of the Naval Academy. Civilians and do these during or after college). The Navy doesn't have generals. They have admirals. Same authority, different name. It usually takes officers around 20-25 years to reach the rank of colonel (or the Navy's case, Captain). The majority of officers don't even make 1 star General or Admiral. After you reach O-3 (Captain in the army, marine corps, and AF - LT in the Navy), promotion is only given by recommendation by superior officers and through a promotion board.
Good luck. |

The Navy has Admirals, not Generals, therefore it is an impossibility for you to do it. |

You would need to get into some kind of officer program (Naval Academy, ROTC, OCS) pretty much almost immediately and then work your way up from there. Staying enlisted, you will never hit General as General is an officer rank. If you put in too much enlisted time, you will be taking up too many years as an enlisted person and to get that high in the military, you will need most of those 40 to get there. |

Never
enlisted men do not get promoted to 4 star generals |

The best I've personally seen is a prior enlisted who made it to a full-bird Col.and Base Commander. After getting passed over for his 1st star twice he finally retired.
He served his first term of 4 years. Got out and used his GI bill. Then he came back in as an officer. Retired at 32 years. |

E 2 is enlisted a General is an Officer. Therefore, you have to go to college and be commissioned. After that you are looking at over 30 years. |

Well considering that one is enlisted and the other is officer it's not even possible unless you do a stint as enlisted and then go to OCS and get commissioned. |

An E2 in the navy could NEVER make 4 star general, as the Navy doesn't have generals, they have Admirals. |

would never happen because there are no 4 star generals in the navy, now if you are asking if a seaman recruit could progress all the way to the rank of Admiral, its technically possible if he got his degree and went to OCS, but very unlikely. |

Enlisted can't make it to the rank of 4 star general. Plus, Navy doesn't have "generals". |

You would have to be God or damn near close to it. |

It would be impossible for an E2 in the Navy to become a General unless he/she switched branches after receiving a degree.
It is possible for an Enlisted to be accepted in the Seaman to Admiral program, get a degree and then become an Officer. I know of one gentleman that did something similar. He was enlisted first, then got into the Academy, and is now a Rear Admiral (1 star). He isn't the first one who has done it. |

well first that E-2 would have to become an officer by going to officer training school. To do that he/she would have to get a bachelors degree. |

might wana start with getting a degree and then getting commissioned because you can be an "enlisted general" |

If you are in the Navy you will never make General. The Navy has Admirals not Generals. If you want to eventually make Admiral some day you are going to have to get a commission as a Naval officer.
But if your heart is set on becoming a General then you need to go to the Air Force, Army or Marine Corps. |

you would have to join the navy as enlisted, then get out get a degree and joing the marines/army/ airforce...
there are no generals in the navy, |

The Navy doesn't have Generals. Get out of the Navy, go to college and become an officer in one of the other services. It usually takes about 28 years of service as an officer to make 4 stars and very few make it. |

Did anyone catch that he said 4 star General? It's an Admiral.
And you don't promote as a straight ladder from enlisted to officer. You must go to some sort of officer training and graduate as an officer. You can do this while enlisted. Then you will promote upwards (if you are good) as an officer to hopefully an ADMIRAL. Whether or not you make it all the way up there is up to you.
Just do good as an officer - that's how you promote. It will take many years (30+ is my guess). |
