How many of you agree that us veterns should cover their own health care with their personal insurance?

Just to think that the president would suggest such a bill make me sick to my stomach, down threw the years us veterns have given their blood and sometimes their very lives for american interest , and now the leader of our nations whats them to pay for health care out of their own pocket, this is discusting and wrong and the american tax payers should not allow such a thing happen to people that have served so proud ,I believe in what is right don't you?

I retired from the Navy in 2000. Any one who has served already knows that all retirees already pay for their own health insurance, through Tricare Humana. Admittedly, the rates are lower than any other health insurance, the copays are low, and the prescription coverage is great, but ... we pay.
Given the alternative, which would be to have to drive 100 miles to the nearest VA hospital, I cheerfully pay.
Heck, I wouldn't care if the VA hospital was across the street! I'd rather pay for my insurance than submit to a VA hospital. And I'd bet you that any service member, whether a retiree or a discharged veteran, would do the same if they could.

It is disgusting and wrong, many vets have problems stemming from their service, I think the biggest exception they can make without the public rioting the whitehouse would be to say the medical issues must be undisputibally caused by the time in the service.

You must think this, A vet gets his arms and legs taken off, what now, he can't work or afford insurance.

There is no way in hell that will ever pass but it does show the liberal contempt for the military, sick!

UncleBen
If their health care needs were caused by an act of war the government should pick up the entire tab.

Mercer Devil
I think the US government should pick up the tab. Proposing veterans pay for their own service-related injuries is bad form and too unpopular to ever become law. Any congressperson that votes for such a law will have a hard time getting re-elected, and the people in Congress know this.

This is going away. You can **** over a whole country but don't touch our veterans or somebody is likely to get hurt. Now if we can get the whole country to quit accepting the crap that is coming from the administration and congress we'll have something to be proud of.

He wants the finest of this country to pay their own way to treat injuries suffered while fighting for their country but wants us to give health care to others, many who won't even work. He is the Commander In Chief of the military and this is how he wants to repay them. This says a lot about this man's character.

Chris S
He has the same contempt for our Armed Services that Clinton had. We owe it to our service personnel to provide whatever care they need. Congress has been *ucking with military benefits for years.

Forget War- It was the democrats in congress who wouldn't authorize the money for body armour. Blame them.

Hollyy- Where the fu** do you get off criticizing Americans, you Canadian cu*t?
Selfish? Because most Americans still believe in being self-reliant, and expect other people to be, as well? My God!
Spoiled rotten? This is funny coming from a Canadian. You expect government to pay your bills, and are more than happy to see other people bled of their hard earned money to do so. You're pathetic.

Oh, and we know just how well run YOUR system is. THAT'S why we don't want it here.

Jake, I am a 100% service connected disabled vet, and I did not get all bent out of shape when I first read it. Chill out it was a thought that was thrown out, and got sent into the circular file shortly thereafter. It is a non issue.

I am out of the Army next week. I have a recent back injury that won't be resolved by than. I have no workers comp. There are many like me, we can't expect our next insurance company to pick up the tab for this, if the do I can't imagine what my premium would be.

ADD: Benji: not all of us are retired. I am a DA civilian and I don't get the insurance like you. I pay much more. Pre existing injuries do matter to other insurance companies. I entered into the Military and did my time. I did it honorably. When I enlisted I knew my body would be worked hard but I knew the VA was there.

To the above poster who said the father and grand father were vets. The VA will help if it is service related. Find a VSO. They will represent your for free to the VA. If unsure what that is http://www1.va.gov/VSO/. These people are usually vets themselves and will GLADLY GLADLY help EVERY Vet they can and it costs NOTHING.

If it is service related then its on uncle sam, if its not then the civilain side should be used for the primary care. How I think if you have ever been in the service and have gone to fight for your country and actually deserved a combat patch then you should be covered for the rest of your life. After all the majority of service Men and Women stay healthier longer then there civilian counter parts, I think that is little to ask for.

Please do not ASSUME that since they say
that they are not going to do it...that they won't
do it...

They have been doing it for Years...
They just don't tell the Public...
Once a Veteran could go to the VA Hospitals/
Clinics and get Free Healthcare for anything...

The VA has treated Less and Less numbers of
Veterans that do not have a Service Connected
Disability...(It can take years to get SC)
(This is the Ambush Veterans don't see Comming)

I have been fighting the VA as a Patient
and as a Veterans Service Officer for years...

True Story:
A Combat Veteran receives a Medical Discharge
30Nov1972 with a 60% SC Rating...in less than
6 months the VA reduced the rating to 50%...
It took the Veteran 30 years 83 Days to get it raised
to 70% with unemployability...
(Payable at the 100% Rate)
For the samething that he had been
discharged with in 1972.

Please note: The reasons they are doing this is
that they want to "Privatize the VA System" so it
can be used as part of the National Healthcare
Welfare System...as was proposed by Bill & Hillary.
(Got to have some where to put all of those illegal
alien sick people...)

dude, I'm a Cpl in the army, an infantryman and Im deployed in Iraq right now. I've also been an army brat my entire life before the army. you always pay for tricare like that navy guy said. always have, did you even read fully what the bill was about or did you just picked one part to ***** about? are you sure it just didn't say something to the effect of we're going to have to pay more? which really wouldn't bother me anyhow, the country's strapped for cash and we all need to bite the bullet (no pun intended)

I can understand the indignance.

At the same time my father is a Vietnam vet and my grandfathers both WWII vets. All of them use their private insurance and have never used the VA.

By the way, in the last administration we bought all the body armor for my brother on his way to Iraq---just saying.

i think all americans should have access to universal health care

i do believe in what is right :) universal health care.. the way to go

hollyy

edit - wow i get thumbs down?
people are really that selfish?

you guys dont even pay half the taxes us canadians do. you guys are spoiled rotten. no wonder half the world already hates you immensly, the rest just doesnt like you

chris - actually we pay for it through taxes :) thats how the government pays for it, through our money. go get an education

works eh? thats why like, france, canada, britain etc all have universal health care. if it didnt work, we wouldnt have it ;)

sorry but i rather live knowing that if i get sick and need hospital care i wont be turned away cause my insurance wont cover it

yah, americans not willing to pay extra taxes to help their own friends out, is indeed selfish :)

stevetcolbert
I think we should have Universal healthcare...for every citizen.

Why should I have to join the military or work for the government in order to be able to see a doctor when i'm sick ?

Insurance companies are siphoning all of the revenue out of the healthcare system in the form of PROFIT !...they don't make money by providing insurance, they make money by denying coverage and payment for care !

It's a classic fox in the henhouse scenario...
