How many proud Americans, my friend being one of them, should die in this war before congress ends it?

I cannot figure out why nearly 3300 of our boys and girls had to die in a country nobody in the US gives a rat's a** about.

Nothing has changed. There's still going to be civil war.

And by going to war with Iraq, more terrorists were created. We didn't lessen terrorism, we made it bigger and stronger.

Every disenfranchised young Muslim joined the fight, either physically or mentally. We gave them a gigantic target to rally around.

That is an ugly question. Sixty-three million people died in WWII. The Soviets lost 14 thousand people in Afghanistan. It appears that we are going to continue to lose soldiers in Iraq and many are questioning the wisdom of staying with it.

I wish the answer was easy. I fear that if we pull out, the aftermath will make the war look like a cake walk. Each death is a tragedy, but also done for an honorable cause.

Congress is a political animal. That is why the founders did not put them in charge of fighting wars. They do have control over funding, but hopefully they won't do anything shortsighted.

Zero, not one. Not a scratch on another soldier, not a scratch on another Iraqi citizen.

Now we've got to fight against these "pre-existing personality disorder" fraudulent, evil methods of denying our soldiers of the care they were promised and deserve. Sick. This is a shameful time in our country and those responsible should be stripped of their citizenship and deported.

I was over there and I think we need to see the thing through. How many people have to die before we do something about drunk driving. 16,885 dead in just 2005. Thats alot more then the 4 years of war

Congress cannot end the war!!!!!!!! Your friend volunteered..... he knew what the possible dangers were or did he think it would be a quick sight seeing trip around the globe, some fun in the sun maybe.

About a year ago the US News made a big deal of the Casualty mark passed 2000 deaths.

2000 deaths in 3 years of war.
Lets put that in perspective shall we.
there were MORE THAN 2000 deaths in the Pearl Harbor Attack alone.

In the 4 years the US was in the war (Dec '41 to Sep '45) the us suffered 407,300 Military deaths.
We have now been in the War in Iraq for the same amount of time and our current deaths is just over 3000.

Since when do we fight wars based on some abstract number of deaths?!

You think Congress votes and says "When we reach X amount of dead we pull out and give up"???

You do your friend a disservice. You are aiding his enemies.
You sew disent and rile people up. you try to turn people against the war and in doing you are destroying the support the your friend relies on back home.

The terrorists out there LOVE people like you. You do more harm to the USA and do more good to the terrorist cause than any number of suicide bombers could ever hope to.

I would say the people ended Vietnam once a draft is in place the people get upset and put pressure on congress to end the war. Congress is there to represent the will of the people.

Freedom is not free. Sacrifices have to be made. They just like i, are willing to give our lives for our counrty. And if they are not ready to die for there country for the good our our freedom they should not have enlisted.

None! I say we should let the Iraqis kill each other as they have been doing for hundreds of years. We are not here for the right reasons and our troops are needed here at home to protect our borders from all enemies, foreign and domestic. We need to get a handle on the 12-20 million illegal immigrant soldiers who are fighting American Laws and supporting gang warfare, drugs, smuggling more illegals, and their continuous law-breaking activities.

Sir, I understand your concern, but when you think about it, more people die in violent acts in New York or Washington or Detroit every day. US soldiers are the best in the world. They are fighting for more than fredom and liberation for Iraq,
They do it because it is the right thing to do.
You may not agree, but if you were opressed and someone would risk his or her life for you, would you not be grateful.
The ones who dont want the middle east to change are the ones that will loose the most because they can no longer act as they once did. Now they are accountable.
Your friend is very brave.
