How many stamps will i need to get a letter to a marine in Iraq?

I know i asked this question already, but i got lots of conflicting answers. I went to the post office and asked the guy behind the counter about it, who said you need only one 37 cent stamp...but i've read in other places that i need closer to 80 cents....so now i'm wondering if he missed the "iraq" part of my question. Please help me out. (The letter, by the way, is just the standard sized deal...nothing huge)

OK hubby in the military and son serving abroad so do this pretty much at LEAST 3 times a week.

IF you have the APO address then ALL post, mailed in the USA will go via what the rate would be for sending anything to anyone in the USA regardless of where the military member is stationed so if its just a regular envelope with about 4 sheets of paper then 37 cents will be fine......ANYTHING else it is worth going to the post office and having it weighed......some cards cost more, if you put a few pics in it pushes up the weight, so you pay more etc.

Once you have done this via the post office a few times you will be able to gauge it better for your self.....you will also learn the rough length of posting time.......all mail posted to APO address leave the post office and are sent to a central sorting area in New York and sent from there.

Hope this helps you a little bit

You're not mailing a letter to Iraq, you're mailing it to NY or San Francisco, so it's only 39 cents. The military collects all overseas mail at those two ports and ships it around the world. It's the same price to any service member anywhere in the world.

I assume you are writing to an APO address? That is the same as sending a letter within the US and all you need is regular first-class postage.

jazzkidzmom
It's regular Class A postage to a troop in Iraq.

Thank you for REALLY supporting our troops. Mail from home means soooooo much!

If it is less than one ounce it is 39 cents. 2 ounces 63 cents

Whatever you would use to send it within the United States is the same price you pay to send it to the APO address of a unit deployed to Iraq. I used domestic flat rate shipping boxes and a customs declaration to ship things once a month to my friend currently deployed to iraq.

Okay, I am a master at this, as I have sent 137 letters to Iraq, one for everyday my hubby has been gone.

All you need is a 39 cent stamp to mail a normal sized letter to APO, FPO addresses.

Now the packages, use a flat rate box. It will cost you $8.10 no matter the weight.

i answered this question last time you posted it and was appalled that the guy who claims to work at the post office said 80 cents.

my husband is in iraq and i send him letters all the time (he loves to carry them around on missions) and it is one stamp. 39 cents.

alright, if you're sending a letter to a FPO or APO address, you will only need the ordinary amount of postage.

You need one stamp. Whatever the current postage rate is. I'm in Iraq currently, so I don't pay for postage. You only have to pay to get the letter to New York. I assume it's an APO address.

Unless mistaken, you might want log on the us postal service site and see the requirements for "free mail" from a combat zone.. mine was free.. coming out of Viet Nam, but going in I think as I recall it was WHATEVER the postage was at that time for a first class letter...

wishstar28
one stamp will work. the guy at the post office told you 37 cent and he even works there and dont even know that you cant send mail for 37 cent unless it's a post card and sometimes even then you cant. your normal 39 cent stamp will be fine and it will get to him in about a week maybe a little longer.

shjOlds_442
APO or FPO is still just 39 cent.

Just a regular postage stamp. If you ever want to send a package, the best way to go is a regulation US Priority Mail package (the pre-fab ones you get free at the post office)- stuff it as full as you can for (I think) about $7.50.

Mail to our troops stays within the US Postal service until it is delivered, here in the United States, to the APO or FPO that is part of the address. That's the only postage required. The rest of the delivery happens within the military postal service. So, a standard stamp (they now cost 39 cents) will be fine for a standard letter.

Ask the Post Office guy (or girl) again. They should be able to tell you. If you are unsure head to another post office and get a second opinion or ask another person who works in the post office. Then you might just have to trust them.

If you don't feel you're getting the right answer at the post office, or if they are unsure, take it up with their supervisor. That's the only way to care of business sometimes.

Emailing is better. Letters take forever.

Air Force girlfriend11
Okay so my boyfriend is in the Air Force and I want to send him letters, But I am also sending inspirations notes but on index cards in one envelope, and two letters in another envelope, I am only sending seven index cards. So will I have to add more than one stamp or can I just use one stamp with out it getting sent back
