Since the war kicked off 5 years ago, approxiamately just under 2500 soldiers have been killed in action. There are over 500,000 soldiers in the Army so after some quick math, you have a .5% or half of 1 percent chance of being killed in action. So I say the average soldier will survive through the war.

very high but media and people against the war will try to make it sound extremely low. you can check by finding out how many troops your country has and finding out how many have died.

Less than 1% have died each year during this war. You have a better shot at living than you do on the streets of Detroit.

A better chance than getting in a car and getting on the road.

OK so your scared like the rest of us were at one point, so I have to ask the question? WHY are you joining if your so worried about it? The armed forces is not there to get you through an education or provide you with a career. Those are beanies. You are serving the USA, your life could be on the line! So stop thinking your joining the boy scouts!!!!!

Well if you look at the numbers over all over 1,000,000 members of our military have served in Iraq about 4000 have died. So that comes out to about 1 and 250 will die. Of course it could be much higher or lower chance of dieing depending on what you do in Iraq, where you are, and how long you stay. An Infantryman in the Army who spends 15 months in Mosul has a much more likely chance of dieing than a guy in Airforce who signs contracts on Baghdad International Air Port (thats where the President and Senetors fly in so you know it is safe) Most people in our military will never go to Iraq.

The most dagerous branches in order are according to total casualties to total stength.

Army
Marines
Marine Reserves
Army National Guard
Army Reserves
Navy
Airforce
Naval Reserve
Air National Guard
Coast Guard

Your chances are extremely good that you will be completely safe.

I wish I had the stats on hand, hopefully you can find them if you search. I have seen the stats, and the truth is, you had a better chance of getting killed in a training accident in the US if you were a solider in the 80's then you have of getting killed by the enemy in Iraq today.

waat?
It depends which rank you are in.
An officer would have a better chance of survival than an enlisted, but chances of dying is very low unless we're in a war against china or the e.u.

Regarding what? In combat? Basic Training? AIT? Daily Training? Driving from and to the base? Walking down the stairs? Walking past that big tree on base?
All I can say is "When it's your time, it's your time."

Extremely high. What makes you think you are going to die if you do join?

pretty high today
alot of people that died was due to other's mistakes or that they just went on their own. whatever they did they got my respect

cmdrbnd007
Considering there have been less than 4000 deaths in the war and we have over 100,000 troops deployed my guess is pretty good.

less chance than going to a police station with an illegal automatic gun. try it

just look at the numbers: 200,000+ deployed and 4,000 dead. not really any riskier than crossing a busy street unless ur one of the ppl in the heavy insurgency zones

MadMaxx
gee... a few ten thousand do it every year... year after year... considering our Army is SO small... I'd say most recruits die and never make it out of basic, lmao.

I have an excellant chance... you... not so good!

armine_aksay
