Too much! Basic Combat Training (BCT) is about instilling discipline. Expect to be "locked down" or micro-managed everyday. You will not have the freedoms that you might be used to (e.g. cell phone, make-up, etc.). You'll be able to communicate with loved ones by phone and mail.

In Advanced Individual Training you'll have many liberties. You'll even have weekends off at times. Though you're still in training, you'll be able to reunite with your true personality.

I cant tell you exactly what the differences are but my husband just graduated AIT and the differences from my point of view (as an army wife)
In AIT you are allowed to have your cellphones, basic your not.
AIT you get down time and weekends off(there are phases you go through that determine if you get time off or not like 'Gold Stat' you get to stay off base from friday night until sunday night, Basic you don't get any time off (or at least not enough time to leave post.)

AIT is more or less a structured college type thing. (Or at least that's how I perceive it.)
